Personally I think a toggle would be nice. Have had a few times where I'd want to play a class for a certain reason but because they were so low level (or I just wanted to use them for something and not necessarily level them up) I ended up feeling like I had to avoid them because it'd "waste" the rest XP. Not a huge deal obviously though either way.
