    Bring back Pissed Pirate !!!

Just saying, he is/was the best NPC in the history of FFXIV.

A bold statement, one would think. Let me tell you why Pissed Pirate encompasses awesome and that how he was a beacon of hope for the underdogs/minority.

Firstly, I'm British and thus always and forever I have to read American English spelling/grammar etc. wherever I go on the internets. This, of course, includes FFXIV. Now whereas a lot of American phrases have infiltrated the minds of the weaker Brit/European/Canadian/Australian/African/Russian/Chinese (and any other country that learn British English as standard at school) person, there are some things that it'd be nice to retain. Don't get me wrong, this is certainly not some anti-American rant, I love our cousins across the water. I have many, many good friends there and in so many ways we're very similar...

I'm just stating that I don't want 100% of the British English language to be gone from a game. There are indeed lots of examples but for me the one that stood out was the Pissed Pirate outside the Culinarian's Guild (I think!) in v1 of FFXIV. The amusing part about it is/was, that as a Brit I totally understood what 'pissed' meant in that context, drunk. I remember speaking to many Americans who thought it was pissed because he was angry of as we'd say in the UK 'pissed off', which I think was the same phrase originally adopted in the US too, but the 'off' got chopped.... off... Anyway, some drunken pirate for me represented a little bit of British in a sea of American. Is that why so many people moaned about the NPC and got him removed? Not sure, I doubt it but people don't like what they don't understand...

Now, I think in the end the excuse for the NPC's removal was the language he used. This is a 13+ game and the word "bugger" is used on occaions as is "bastard", both out of original context of course. Pissed Pirate, when talked to, would say "WENCH! Get me another drink!" and then "what? you're not a wench? WENCH! Get me a new wench!".

How on earth are people going to whine about the use of the word 'wench' in the context of a pirate? I don't think there was any suggestion that what the NPC was saying was acceptable language in the real world, just like talk of an enemy eating/destroying/poisoning another being isn't acceptable.

It infuriates me that overly politically correct types could have an influence on this. So I ask, nay plead, that Pissed Pirate is returned to the game and with identical speach...

Uh, have you actually read the dialogue npcs in the game actually say? That line about wenches is pretty much said verbatim by two drunks in Buscaron's Druthers in the South Shroud (even the waitress nearby is called 'Bar Wench'), various British swear words show up repeatedly, and there is sexual innuendo abounding throughout the game. And yes, the pirates in Limsa say this sort of thing all the time too.

Either this is a troll thread, or you just haven't been paying attention very well.

ty for your expert advice on whether this is a troll thread or not. I don't come to the forums very often as there's a lot of sad individuals along with the awesome ones. For example, one guy above made a post and actually posted it and somehow thought that pointing out a single error in my grammar (of which I'm sure there are probably many) somehow makes my point less valid. I was told by a good friend that the reason the NPC was removed was due to the language used and people offended at his use of the word 'wench' in the context it was.

That seems a tad silly considering there are numerous NPCs that use salty language much stronger then "wench". And there actually being a npc called a wench. Was your friend just speculating or making a joke? This game had made me uncomfortable a number of times while questing. So far we have TWO (cause one wasn't enough trauma) NPCs who request you rub them down with oil while making moaning sounds...

They were serious but I think they may well have been mistaken. I still wanted to highlight my annoyance at the removal of my favourite NPC. You're right about the other chars though, one was talking about a maiden's garden that had been undiscovered and that he hoped he'd be the first.

I don't know what to offer by way of bribery on this point but I really do have some crumpets downstairs that I'd be happy to grill (not toast...).

    Matt/Lard

P.S. just by chance that any Dev ever actually reads this... what on earth is going on with the tilde in the game? it looks like a tiny mistake, PLEASE go back to the larger tilde used before~~~~~~~~

P.P.S. If I take out my minion, I realise that they cannot acompany me everywhere but once out of that area, like a dungeon or w/e my minion should surely return. I seem to be forever pulling my minions out after the game has decided they shouldn't come back. Like after a death or any other circumstances. No matter how long I'm in a non minioned place, please can the minion return afterward, until I myself put it away. Thanks !

You wrote so much about "grammar" and the "English language"...

And yet, you put a space between "Pirate" and the exclamation points.

Yes, you must have a strong mind to resist the infiltration of American phrases, yet this is not an anti-American rant. Grow up.
