Provoke - Is it necessary?

Provoke is good for Boss swapping which you need to do in some instances.
It's a great tool anyways to have for emergencies.

In Garuda EX you swap the boss between you and the other tank to avoid getting 5 stacks of a debuff.

Provoke makes it easier to swap since it puts you at the top of the enmity list.

Are you talking about Ultima HM? Garuda Xm does NOT apply any debuff on tank. (aside from spiny plume)
Once you start doing the Xm Primal, Ultima HM, or Coil (T2, normal way) Provoke play really improtant part in tank swaping

You do NOT tank swap on Garuda Xm. Main Tank will alway tank Garuda and Ot will alway on sister, Garuda and her sister do not put any debuff on tank. (only Spiny does) However, If OT take Suprana and the DPS kill her too slow then Suprana will swap place with garuda.

You may not tank swap garuda, but you swap the plumes, and it seems to me like the only way to get hate on these plumes is voke, since i once hit a plume with a full BB combo and my hate bar didnt move at all.

Thats cause Spiny starts with an enmity of 100000 on its initial target. Nothing will remove it off the first target its picks other than provoke.
