It would probably help if you could find something else to do during that time you're waiting. If you are only interested in doing end game/instanced content, well, that could be an issue.

Myself, I can always find something to do. Daily Roulettes, daily treasure map, level another class, gather stuff for money or level a crafting class. There's tons of things to do in game, but if you limit yourself to one then there's not much you can do about that.

:: PROBLEM SOLVED:: - Go do something productive in your "waiting" time like harvest or craft. Maybe explore other in game content that the game offers. Also I would like to point out that many of us played FFXI, want to talk about wait times...Go stand in the dunes for a few hours trying to form a party all the time. Another fix to your "problem", go level another class, you can always switch back when the PF or DF fill up and duty is commenced. Its comments like the OP's that make me understand the sad state that many MMO's are in these days. Don't want to wait go play Call of Duty, want a game with a deep story that you can't power though in 5 minutes, go get FF. People like you are rushing to complete all the content and move on to the next game that is released anyway so...I guess to wrap it up complain when something is actually wrong.

Part of me says if you want fast queues, you need to be a tank or healer. If continuing to wait as DPS or switching to tank or healer is asking too much then you should play a different game like an offline RPG so you can always be doing things with practically no waiting times (basically just load screens).

Another part of me thinks SE should have had more DPS slots. If SE had 8 man parties with 1 tank 1 healer and 6 DPS then queue times would be much more even. I played an online RPG that basically had a 1 healer 5 DPS requirement and 1 tank 1 healer 4 DPS requirements. Getting tanks for the 1 tank 1 healer 4 DPS quests was sometimes a problem but DPS didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes usually as opposed to 20 minutes - 90 minutes in ARR.

I used to be tank because of the queue times and that's what my free company wanted. I am probably changing to DPS because I enjoy DPS. Even though I can tank alright, I don't always enjoy it and struggle with things like snap enmity and multitasking. I hate multitasking things like managing adds, stacks, DOTs, statuses, etc. I am doing BLM DPS because it is more reactive and rotation based. I don't see SE ever changing the party set up. But the wait times are discouraging to the many players that like the DPS play style and waiting will cause some people to leave. You can't cater to everyone and the game isn't for everyone but the 1 tank 1 healer 2 DPS decision might not have been the best.

Or do as I now doing: check forum while waiting

Anyway, glad that you understand and feeling better.
But just FYI, FFXIV is already a vast improvement with Duty Finder, Roulette, all those gathering/crafting and etc that you can do while waiting.
Back in the old MMO days, if you do not have guild/friends in game, you had to actually crawl to the dungeon's entrance through a thickets of monsters, to meet players of similar needs in the zone over there, shout/yell/tell to form a team before you can finally head into the dungeon...it's quite engaging initially, but the charm lose pretty quickly if you had to do it over and over, as that's very time-consuming to even get something started, and then you may not even have a successful run in the end.

BTW, instead of using Duty Finder, you may find groups through Party Finder too, it can be faster sometimes if you are the last few person needed.

During my last few days as a PLD in Final Fantasy XI I remember waiting anywhere from 2 - 3 hours shouting for a party in Jeuno. Then, if you finally get a party it's a 20 - 30 run to the zone then you are pretty much committed to spending at least 1 - 2 hours with party grinding.

Extremes are just new, you expect to get a pug going within 15 minutes then downing them all without having people drop out? If you want to do the hardest newest stuff in the game you really should find a good fc or a good static group at least.

I feel the waiting is only a true problem when lvling a dps class. You can queue a random dungeon but there are so many low lvl dungeons where you get so much less exp, not to mention that damn ifrit story mode. Queue for a couple specific dungeons, and the new Roulette hardly has much of an effect on queue times compared to before 2.1, i've seen.

lol, I remember my first MMO...

Protip: Play healer or Tank to minimize your 'waiting' time. Form a static, make friends and play with people you know instead of winging it in public groups.

If you play healer or tank you won't wait around that long.
