I think there may also be an issue with latency as well as language. I know that players in Japan have a much easier time dodging with their 9ms pings than those of us in Australia with our 120ms ones. While I imagine it's mostly that they don't want to have to deal with the language barrier, it could also be that they're sick of watching SEA players eat aoe. Either way, it's their prerogative to ask for members to be "jp only".

I also don't think that selecting all the languages on duty finder is a problem. I ran a few instances today with only EN selected and I got grouped with JP players (or players speaking Japanese, anyway) which didn't bother me at all. As long as you don't need any explanations it shouldn't really matter what language you speak.

It's likely just a communication issue. If it's something like EX Primals or Coil you're going to need to communicate with the rest of the party so everyone speaking the same language usually helps.

    How am I doing?

On the topic however, I believe people are well within their rights to request a set language they are comfortable with. I myself want people to understand when I am offering advice, requesting group members perform certain tasks or even to praise people on a job well done.
I often queue in English only for this very reason, if I had to shout for a party (or use party finder) I would think say the same for these reasons. It's not because I hate other language speakers, its because if I ever find myself NEEDING to communicate something to complete the instance with my sanity in tact, I know they will understand.

To be fair, I have met both really really good JP players and some totally horrid ones as well. Language and origin have nothing to do with a person's skill. Don't try to make it personal.

The language barrier can be a problem. I did CT in a mixed language group not long ago and there were two of us who were translating, but until we caught on that most of team A had no idea what was going on and started doing so we kept wiping over and over. VERY annoying so it doesn't bother me to see JP only or EN only in these things.

They start kicking people when they see your profile is underlined E regardless if you tried to greet in jap. You will only probably get by if you really do speak any jap to respond.

question is if you .want. to be part of such a group. if it's a 'difficult' encounter I have no problem with language barrier if that's how you want to call it, but I have already see people asking for 'french only' or 'german only' or 'english only' (or once 'spanish only') for really easy stuff.

the other day I was asked to heal some brayflox 'German only' run. I was all 'lol nope'. (I'm German))

I don't think so for a lot of Japanese groups. I watched a Japanese streamer doing coil, with plenty of english names, and when he pulled up a window, i saw a bunch of them had E underlined only, and their chat was all Japanese. They seemed to do fine, wiped once if i remember right, but otherwise quite laid back.

I was in Halitali the other day, and the tank spoke a language i didn't know, but also broken english. Wasn't a big problem, only ran into him going past a winch, and he didn't understand what i meant. So i ran over to it hopping in front of it, and he got it and thanked me. I wasn't sure it was in the auto translate, but i got the point across fine with no language. Some people don't want to risk anyone not understanding them, but there isn't much in game that can't be learned by doing.
