Anyone other SMNs running into "Pet Damage Doesn't Count"

This is driving me crazy.

• Someone tells me my DPS is low.
• I think ok maybe I am off, so I look at parser and see my DPS + my Garuda is on the high end of DPS being done.
• I point out my combined DPS, and ask them if this isn't what they are seeing.
• They tell me "Pet Damage Doesn't Count"
• My head explodes.
• They tell me I suck etc etc.
• I just leave, knowing its not worth it to argue.

I have run into this issue in every MMORPG I have played when pet classes are involved. I think the issue started in the days of WoW when Hunter pets would always die from Raid AoE, and thus weren't considered in theorcrafting because "Pets don't count because they die to easily." And its just kind of stuck. That is really the only thing I can think of as to why this line of thinking is around...

Thoughts, examples, sob stories welcome.

As a BLM - Pet damage counts. If I'm not well ahead of SMN in aggro - I'm not doing it right.

(Or the SMN is doing it very right).

Y'know, maybe it's just my MMO past talking (CoH with 'troller pets and Masterminds), but anyone saying that a pet class's pet doesn't count really needs to rethink things.

Or maybe they play SMN and want to use that excuse as a reason to get a buff.

as much as i hate to say it, yes your egi's should count toward your dps, since they are nothing more than an actual extension of you......and its the same with any other pet jobs in every game out there

and second, as a smn, dont become too reliant on any parsers, especially since there isnt one that can parse a smn perfectly, best example of this is: NO parser has successfully parsed shadow flare yet, and thats just one off the top of my head

It is very odd to hear, but the ONLY way to understand this mentality, is to ask the people directly.

And yes, yes it does count.

If you place a DoT on an enemy, or a DoT with an HP bar, its still damage you directed at a target because of your actions and presence.

The answer is simple, a lot of REALLY stupid people play MMOs. Ignore them, they're getting nowhere.

eh? As a BLM I always add up my pet damage to my own. Don't worry m8 Garuda is no less than my Bard, you should add her up to your damage ^^.

Haha, I saw a thread when 2.1 came out titled "Bard is now caster pet". I could not help myself, best pet ever. All kind of songs with a very good AI (most of the times lel).

The only other way I could imagine why someone would think that, is that pets can be put on autopilot.
Which of course the next response would be "Then auto attacks dont count for physical DPS, since its being done automatically by the game."
