I have this hate/love relation with the current DoH/DoL quests. But I can only speak for the miner and blacksmith quests.
For the blacksmith one:
I loved the old senile and pervert lalafell as a guildmaster. He was so much more entertaining that the current one. Although he's still a somewhat important npc for Pharos Sirius. But I loved doing the bsm quests in 1.0.
Miner:
Same opinion as OP. I miss the lalafell twins and their sister. They were awesome beyond words.

I had the exact same experience with the Culinarian questline (and Pulmia and Prudentia were delightful - they're still in the Bismark, but that's it. /sadface). The 1.0 CUL quests were fantastic. The ARR version were so bad that I forgot to do the last few until long after I had hit 50.
It's just one among many things that went downhill with ARR.

Would not worked. In 1.0 the class quests were at 20, 30 and 36. In ARR we have every 5 levels a class quest.
Only the job quests are copy/pasted, because the amount of quests are the same.
In ARR the class quests are more about the work in the guilds and less about the people in the guilds.

Which is kind of sad, because the npc's really made doing the guild quests really worth it and fun. I know a lot of people just do the quests because of the gear/xp/gil, but this is still a Final Fantasy game. I wish the "story" and "personality" of the quests hadn't taken such a hit.
I just hope in the future they're able to work with the great personalities that they gave these npc's (apparently in more than just the miner's guild) and branch from there, instead of letting the characters just fade off in the background. These npc's actually made me want to take my time out to carefully read the quests!
I want to be able to care about more than just the "main protagonists". I'd love to do silly errands that involve pranks and tricks and parties (Wasn't there a quest that had some party-goers or something in the armory quest or whatever (I wasn't able to finish mine in time)?)

*GASP!*
I have been wondering what happened to those two! Darn, I wish I hadn't clicked on this but at the very least, I am glad they just didn't completely vanish. Let's hope they get more screentime in the near future.
Below are two images I captured of the twins during 1.0.

SE stated they would involve quests that would clear up a lot of the 1.0 storylines. Well the Lalafell Twins are back (sorta), Greinfarr is part of the Blacksmith questline, F'lhaminn is back with the new storyline with Minfilia. Basically for newer players, the DoH/DoL questlines in 1.0 involved Lore and weren't just fetch quests.

I am with the OP here, I loved the miner twins. Who were in more than just the miner quests in 1.0, for the record.
But I'm of two minds here. On the one hand, I completely agree that so many of the quests are yawn-tastic groanfests in ARR. Yes Serendipity, we know exactly who the bad guy here is... etc. Oh, there's a Grand Inquisitor in the Ishgard section of the quest line? I'm sure he's definitely not corrupt and we won't have to fight him later, simply by knowing that they named him "Grand Inquisitor". GG, SE.
But at the same time, many of the quests in 1.0 were much worse. Much, much worse. The worst for me were always the Archer (not Bard) quests in 1.0. You get assigned a NPC "partner" at the beginning of the questline, and are told how important it is for Archers to have partners, to always think of their partner first, to develop a relationship with your partner, and so forth...
...and then, FOR THE REST OF THE QUESTLINE, the entire story is your partner talking about how cool her LAST partner was, how much she misses her LAST partner, skipping out on quests with you, etc. It's like, excuse me, I'm standing right here, you disrespectful NPC!
Which, in a nutshell, was the problem with almost all of 1.0's quests. Almost none of the NPC's talked to YOU. They talked to EACH OTHER. And then they looked over at you, noticed you were standing there, and were like, "Oh... um... this is awkward... here, go have an instance, and leave us alone, kthx."

With Tam tara HM's story, it give me hope that these two and their sister will return...though I know Edda and her gang are 2.0 npc's...please please PLEASE SE! Bring them back!! As well as all the other awesome guild npc's!
(I know I'm necrobumping, but I don't care T_T I want my twins back!)

I didn't mind the storyline in 2.0 but the 1.0 miner storyline had its own merits.
=D maybe they'll bring them back in the future!? T_T Maybe...<_< dang it, hope springs eternal!!
Personally, I'd really like it if they added the 'flower girls' back into the Miners Guild. T_T
There was even a huge thread in the 1.0 forums begging SE not to remove them in 2.0 and ...and they still removed them!! -weeps!!-
