    Puzzles and other challenges

One thing I remember fondly while playing offline Final Fantasy games and other RPGs, was the fun and challenging puzzles you had to overcome in order to complete a dungeon or quest.

So far in playing ffxiv (level 45) I don't recall coming across any thing that would really fill the term Puzzle solving challenges within the game, sure there are things in some Dungeons where you must find and collect certain items to unlock new passageways.

I'm not sure how effective such challenges would be in an MMO or how easy they would be to implement efficiently.

But I feel that if they added this whole new mechanic of puzzle solving quests and dungeons it would break up a lot of the monotony of grinding and repeating Fates, filling hunting logs all the general kill, gather and repeat type quests.

(Sorry if my sentence structure was so bad and hard to understand, I am suffering a terrible migrain which is effecting the cognotive functions of my brain machine)

I was looking forward to this in dungeons, but then someone who already has done it ran ahead and did everything. People will not wait and will look for the fastest way apparently. Maybe a search function to find people who want to solve puzzle dungeons? Of course, they'd have to introduce new dungeons to fall into that category. Just a thought.

Good point, there are those players who don't even read the dialog, and just follow quest markers. Really need to build the right sort of community that want to play the game follow the lore and solve puzzles. I think it would be fun.

Reminiscence: SWTOR did this well, especially for Karagga's Palace the droid boss. Would be interesting if FFXIV added something similar.

I am craving something similar. If they forced each member in the party to do something then at least everyone could contribute rather than having one person solve everything, which happens quite often. I recall memorization in VII, which was fun. It could even be a mechanic added to treasure chests to unlock them for extremely rare items. Any addition would be preferred over "go her go there quests", and tank and spanking dungeons all the time.

Yes please! One of my favourite dungeons in Lotro was Inn of the Forsaken, where to progress through the doors there were riddles you needed to find the answer to using emotes [chosen at random from a pool of 83: http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Ridd...neath_The_Inn]. I'd love something similar here! More puzzles and minigames in general. ^__^

I like jump puzzles and things like that, but I think it might be best in a Guildhest setting since doing it in a dungeon will lead to one person speeding through the puzzle. That's how replaying Portal 2 with a friend kind of went.

They did something similar in XI with the Abyssea expansion chapters, there were 3 kind of puzzles to unlock chests. Kind of opening a safe, you had to guess a combination and had 3 different types of hints to go by. Just to say, the dev team is no stranger to the feature, we might see it at some point, since they more than once mentioned that XIV is open to influences from all chapters
