It may be too much effort to create lowbit assets for all the characters, armors, and weapons. But I could totally go for a low res/low poly dungeon. Like some bumbling wizards curse on a castle or something.

Well, Square-Enix could just apply a filter that appears to lower the resolution. Saints Row IV had a part that was mocking 16-bit games, yet it made your character model look pixelated while still retaining your exact costume details, such as color and theme.
Note the black coat with blue details.

This was my favorite part of saints row 4! It alone made the game worth my money.
Would be awesome if we could get a dungeon like this.
Cue the awesome FF NES music

This would make me so happy. What I wouldn't do to run around with an 8-bit weapon...
While I don't think the effort it takes to make all armor and weapons have their own 8-bit counterpart itself is too much, I think it's too much effort to do all that for 1 dungeon. Maybe as an event but probably not as an actual dungeon.
I think it is not directly possible as a guildhest or such. But it could be possible as a seperated, yet in XIV integrated game, which you could join alone or with some friends.
That's really cool. But what's going on with the dude in yellow? His legs appear to have become taffy.Well, Square-Enix could just apply a filter that appears to lower the resolution. If they could pull it off, it'd be a very welcome addition. I love stuff like that.
That's a "glitch" in the game. When you got near certain things, NPC's would freak out. It was hilarious! The development team actually programmed the game to glitch like games used to (and still do to some extent).

I was already thinking of something along these lines, but I don't see a need for actual 8-bit graphics.
I would love to see a dungeon in FFXIV where combat is handled like classic FF. Where your party makes it's way forward and random encounters initiate. Your screen changes to an overhead view, with your party's characters standing on the right side of the screen and the enemies standing on the left, and you trade blows in classic FF style, without all the MMO style running around and positioning. I am sure some people would hate it, but I would LOVE it.
