Vanishing Abilities

I have been playing on the PlayStation 3 with this game, and when i play as certain classes, i gain a level and then a new ability, then when i go back on to the game, the ability has completely vanished.
It seems to be happening with a variety of classes, the worst ones being goldsmith, and pugilist. But now the thaumaturge seems to be doing it, as does the marauder as well. At first i just switched to a different class, thinking that it wasn't that big of problem, but now the majority of the classes seem to be doing it. Any ideas?
