Just did a piesteskin map with some friends: imps were the monster, territorial devilets. I took a screenshot, can post later (it's going to happen today, I need to update my Far East information...) Interesting name!

I ran a Boarskin Map yesterday, and I got two similar monsters: Territorial Dodo and Territorial Cockatrice. It seems that Dodo's have red around their beak whereas Cockatrices have a black beak. The Cockatrice may also have darker plumage, but I'd have to get that set of monsters to spawn again to confirm.

I definitely agree that GENUS: Dodo SPECIES: Dodo/Cockatrice based off of the Dodo Feather / Cockatrice Feather and the fact that the Fat Dodo is clearly a Cockatrice.
Would this mean that the Cockatrice genus on the wiki should be changed back to Ziz?
It makes sense that there's some things that don't always match. Think about it. There's the Great Yellow Pelican in Longstop, but most Pelicans are black and red. That brings us to the question of how do we break down the Ziz family? They're all over the place on colors. They're wildly inconsistent.
We have Yellow, Black, Blue, and Purple.
I say Purple is the Axebeak
Blue is Ziz.
Black is the Pelican.
Yellow is.... Something... There's a Yellow Ziz and a Yellow Pelican...

Yeah, that Cockatrice label should exist there at all. That's a type of Dodo and completely unrelated to Ziz in XIV (it was likely the association with FFXI's Cockatrice/Ziz that led to the assumption).
There are a lot of names for the mobs in the Ziz family and I'm entirely unsure how to sort it out.
Ziz, Pelican, and Axe/Hammer Beak are the names I see come up the most, but I've yet to find any rhyme or reason to which is which. The Hammer Beak is a different color than the Axe Beak. Ziz have many colors. I've seen two colors of pelican. Chaos! CHAOS!
- "Blue Back"
- "Sable Back"
- "Violet Back"
- "Yellow Back"
- Dark Matter (COIL VARIANT/NOT A SPECIES)

Somehow, I feel like in a way, we're the scions of the 7th Dawn, and Fern is our Louisox. I mean... We did kind of lose him to the Calamity... Meteor fell, and We've not seen him much since.... If only Fern were here to guide us... He could sort these damn birds out for us.
I think you might be able to narrow this down by ability usage. Like I think the Ziz more commonly use poison breath attacks, there's another that uses Petrify, another that uses Paralyze. Could be completely off base on if this makes a difference or not though.
I was just off to do my Sylph quests and read the FATE text for Stopping the Spread. That's the question, isn't it? It's not hard to argue that they might be voidsent, even if they seem much more likely to be vilekin. It may very well be the speeds at which gnats teleport make people accuse them of "void jumping." Remember, there's that regular ol' rodent in Gridania called the Deepvoid Deathmouse.
Fate: Stopping the Spread - Little Solace (East Shroud).Swift-breeding, disease-carrying gnats threaten to disrupt the balance of nature in the Twelveswood. Slay the vile voidsent before their numbers multiply.
Yhan, the White Viper.
Yaaay, more discrepancies... This project is frustrating.

After learning of a swarm of pestilent gnats infesting the caves of Little Ala Mhigo - a humble settlement that many of our valued employees call their home - a party of company swords was immediately sent to deal with the problem, only to lose sight of the vilekin as they passed through the southern canyons into the area of Broken Water. Amajina & Sons Mineral Concern, however, will not rest easy until the foul creatures have been found and exterminated, and therefore is offering a generous reward to anyone who will locate the gnats and finish the job.Originally Posted by Tuning In (v1.0)
The Jolly Raptor is planning a shipment of gnat antennae to the witch doctors of Meracydia. Yet despite offering a reasonable reward, the traders have been unable to find sellswords willing or able to travel to the Nanawa Mines and slay the vilekin. To those seeking immediate employment, this an opportune chance to line your pockets with coin.
