Except that native Garleans have that whole third eye thing going on, which is a distinctly non-Hyur trait. The Garleans, as far as I can see, aren't any race or species, but a nation. The members of the Garlean Empire are primarily Hyur, but others are there, in the case when their particular tribe/group/etc... had been conquered and they (the citizens who had been dominated) decided to join with them (the Garleans), likely for a chance at a better life.
Here's the page on the Garlean Empire.
Moose, I have a question. I thought there was going to be an in-game Bestiary when ARR released? I thought Fern said there was going to be one. We did get the Hunting Log, but are there still any plans of there being a bestiary?

I probably missed some stuff, but this is mostly from hunt logs. I know I'm missing some dungeon-specific mobs. Some of the designations may be incorrect as well, but I kinda winged some of them based on past FF games.
Also, as you're probably aware, there's tons of factions within the 5 Races, so I don't know if you want to try to document all of those or not. Rhotano Pirates, Corpse Brigade, etc etc...
Edit: Found that old post from Ferne on the wiki, so updated some of my designations.

Sweet googly moogly. I think you do have most of those classes right - though differentiating which name is the genera and species is tough. The flavor text helps in some respects, but a lot of the taxonomical terms in there seem to have been thrown in kind of whimsically. Until recently Gigas were said to be cloudkin, which I think may have been a holdover from a quest that involved hippogryphs, which another quest refers to as cloudkin... this takes a lot of unraveling - but thanks for all these!
I think fireflies are vilekin (insects) and wisps are unrelated voidsent (along with plasmoids). Long ago we noticed that they all share the names of some attacks and thought they might be related, so we asked, and got a really interesting answer from Fernehalwes.

Dear Mr. Moose.
On my quest to learn as much about the lands of Hydaelyn as Miqo'tely possible, I am very happy to contribute to what I can discover! You are right in that, sometimes F.A.T.E and flavour text creates some confusion in regards to classification of certain animals (though, I am so impressed that the Pudding and the team took the time to correct the errors which have been pointed out in the localisation forums! I encourage everyone to flag these errors in a polite way, to better this game for everyone!).
What I would like to clarify though, is if this bestiary is for fightable monsters only (which seems more manageable to me), or, is it inclusive of things like hover worms (items) and animals with significant evidence provided in text/dialogue (which seems quite taxing...)?
Yhan, the White Viper.
That's the spirit!
Just mobs (for now[?]). The game mechanics and lore work well together to flesh out a nice wiki bestiary and we've got a great deal of the infrastructure already done. Finding missing information and correcting errors is the only time consuming part left. Someday, I'd love to link mob actions to specific mobs, as well, but for now I'm just focusing on organizing taxonomy so lore, drops, and abilities start organizing themselves without much manual work.
Even then, there will be slight discrepancies between actual biological taxonomy on Hydaelyn, the Eorzean biology upon which we build the bestiary, and the actual final bestiary used in the wiki. For instance, the Imperial "species" mentioned above that automatically groups all the Imperial mobs so their drops and locations and such are all nicely organized.

I think this would make them a separate tribe of Hyur, ie Midlander/Highlander/Garlean, rather than making them a new race. They appear to be Hyuran in every other aspect.
Small update on this, 2.1 has been exceedingly handy with identifying the species/genus names due to Treasure Hunt, as "Alpha X" and "Territorial Y" tend to refer not to specific mobs, but the divisions they come from. Quick mid-battle screenshots of mob models with their names might end up helpful. That said, it's not always perfect. Territorial Roselet, for instance, doesn't match Red Landtrap Leaf's item description that the red landtraps are called Roselings.
