His name means Old Ship in the Roegadyn language, a dictionary for which you can find here--http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/63110-Roegadyn-Dictionary
Enjoy.
A true paladin... will sheathe his sword.
In fact, it was Ahldskyf's name that eventually led to Fern giving us the Roegadyn naming conventions, as I recall.
I LOVE the Roegadyn names!
Interesting, I thought the same thing when I saw this NPC, until I learned about the Roegadyn naming conventions. And what I think is interesting about it is that I believe it has something to do with the A, D, S, F in the name. There's a phenomenon where you can read a word if the first and last letters are correct, no matter how jumbled the inside letters are. At least when I look at this name, the first thing to pop out is the AhlDSkyF, which I interpreted as ASDF, which we all know as the letters you would press if you press all the homerow keys with your left hand.
Additionally, Ahldskyf almost entirely consists of consonants. With A being the first letter, and Y only occasionally being considered a vowel (as in this name), it does seem to have a disproportionate number of consonants to vowels at first, further supporting the "face/keyboard" theory.
I'm totally just guessing, but I thought it was interesting.
