Big Trouble in Little Ala'Mihgo-Please Help??

I've been enjoying the main story quests so far...until I came to this one. I've hit a wall. Okay so it's a big battle, cool. One of the objectives is to protect a certain npc in addition to killing the enemies.

    Problem is, I'm a Pugilist.
What exactly do they expect me to do? Grab the npc's aggro and pull the mobs off of him? I couldn't if I wanted to. Heal him? I'm a DPS class, I can't heal and I can't kill them all before this guy dies, always happens 2/3 of the way in. How can I possibly be expected to protect this npc? I've a veteran to the MMO genre as a whole and I love a good challenge but I simply can't do this, It's not what my class is designed for, how did any of you non-tanking non-healing characters tackle this quest?

I even took 10 levels in Conjurer so I could cast Cure I on my Pugilist, but those dinky heals don't make any difference in the Duty, he still winds up dying.
    Any help is appreciated

Is your duty synched? -I guess so
Focus on adds and kill the as fast as you can,
keep adds on yourself and kill them one by one, then turn to boss
you can look on video hosting sites ( don't know if advertising a different site is allowed) they are full of guides

You can try leveling up your Gladiator for Flash, it's only level 8. Just remember that the AOE is kinda small but if you spam it until you run out of MP you should be able to take hate.

Three things that helps with those pesky duties:

    - Upgraded gear
    - Buff foods - last 30 minutes and will up some of your stats temporarily
    - poitions - will restore vitality / TP / MP - most could be used on your friendly NPCs as well

Don't get dishearted by this - I think all of us here got one of those at certain point in the game - my first duty as CNJ took a while to figure out, in the end it was easy ride once you figure out the mechanics of that particular fight. Those are designed for you to "fail" at first and try to use advanced game options rather then "mindless" button mashing / simple limited action use. I remember the graveyard of those failed there trying the same duty ...

I failed on this one yesterday too, and yeah I was level 31 archer. So I googled it and came up with this site: http://uk.ign.com/Big_Trouble_in_Little_Ala_Mhigo

As Sentaq said, kill all the adds first and only attack the boss after they're all dead. Also as Hec said food and potions will help. Most important of all, if you fail you need to jump straight back in and try again. The game gives your stats a boost when you do it again immediately.

I remember failing to that annoying fight too - and not because I died (I didn't), it was because the npc does some very stupid things that get's himself killed pretty quickly. So basically I had to stick close to him and act as his bodyguard so to speak, attacking what he was and thus keep him out of harm's way. Hence if other strategies don't work, you could try that instead.

I don\\'t quite remember a lot about this Duty in particular, but I always found it helpful to pay attention to the General Tab of the chat log. Most of the time, one of the NPC in the duty will command you to do something that is vital to that fight - such as just merely staying close to a certain NPC that needed to be guarded and attack what the NPC was attacking; or moving close to a certain allied NPC to gain some beneficial buffs.

Just got some memories as I was typing, is this the one with one of those Ala Mighans and the Amaljaa fighting? If so you definitely have to protect the Ala Mighan guy, forgot what his name was. Just make sure you kill what he is attacking.

Thats what I did for every single one of these Duty fights if I failed it, I would go back to review the chat log, and can see that a certain NPC was telling me to do something. Did exactly what I read the following try and the duty was a walk in the park.

I remember failing a few times. tricks are as with many other pugilist mass-mob instances... 1) get rid of any healers. 2) use area attacks if you have any (arm of the destroyer is at level 26 and can used first in the combo instead of bootshine and will also silence any caster-mobs, or try some cross-class ones. 3) you will get through the mobs quicker if you return to attacking the same mobs as the NPCs do once gotten rid of the problematic ones (ie healers, debuffers)

If it allows you, gain a level or two before going back. I was always just at the required level for a instance, but it usually lets you be couple levels above the requirement before it syncs you down.

Whenever I would get beat a lot, I'd check for better equips and gain more levels. Sometimes, even one more level did the trick.

Thanks for all the help guys, I focused on the adds more than whittling down the boss this time. I had to punch smarter, not harder - still getting used to playing a dps class as I typically went with tank or support roles in the past.
