The Guildmark System: But I don't wanna be a THM

So, I'm generally okay with the leve system, but the thing that irks me the most about it is that I'm discouraged from trying new classes.

Let me explain. If I decide to play around with new classes, suddenly my leves will (quite randomly) begin offering me guildmark rewards for these new classes... no matter what level leve I'm trying to pick up. Do you know how frustrating it is to want to play one class but to tell your party "Sorry guys, I have to be useless in this one because the marks are for this level 10 class."

What needs to happen is some way to either focus on the class you'd actually like to gain marks for or a way to prevent classes you're not interested in after trying them out from appearing as guildmark rewards.

Also nice would be if guildmark rewards for each tier of content would match up with classes you have for that content. Why should I be getting conjurer guildmarks on my level 30 leves when the only class I have leveled that high is pugilist?

Anyway, that's my two gil. tl;dr version: Guildmark rewards for classes I don't have any interest in are dumb.

To get guildmarks for a particular class in level 30 leves, you must level that class to at least 20. If you've done so, that's hardly "not having any interest." My guess is it wasn't so much trying out a class as it was leveling the class for specific abilities.

However, I agree that the guildmark system makes it very hard to accumulate guildmarks for specific classes later on down the line when you have a handful of them leveled.

I'm totally all for diversifying the things you play, but I don't like feeling like I'm being punished for trying out new things. Doing R20 leves a couple weeks ago with my friends we also stumbled upon the wonderful news that "fewer marks" for not completing a leve as the correct class means "none". One of them has even contemplated a new character because of how many classes he's getting mark rewards for now because he wanted to give them all a fair shot before he picked a main. When your reward system has people thinking about the benefits of starting all over, something's wrong.

understandable beef, but the marks only take over money spots, when you roll leves each reset, it decides what is what marks and what is not, if you dnt have teh require level, it turns them into money.

So while it still kind of kills your money, its not really killing your other marks.

Btw when it says some, its counting on how many monsters you killed while being on the right job.

It would be nice if there was some less random ways to obtain marks, or the ability to turn some back into the money option.,

Having the option to receive either the guildmarks or some other kind of reward would be nice.

Just giving the option of which class you want guildmarks for would be ideal. Select the leve, start it up at the aetheryte, and then it prompts you for what organization you are representing in this leve. Select the class you are going to play and there you have it. Appropriate class guildmarks at the end.

I had a suggestion once for upping the minimum level the class should be at for it to have guildmarks from it's class show up at the next rank leves.

I believe #5 should be a better idea, for at that point you should have better odds of holding yourself up during a 1 star leve at the next rank. At 10/20/etc, you have a 10 level gap, and it's plain stupid to force yourself to do the leve if you want the marks. What if you wanted to take Conjurer or Thaumaturge to 20 for Cure II/Sacrifice II only? Now you risk getting marks for those classes at 30 leves if you don't want to play them further at the time.

Otherwise making the marks universal or opting for a gil reward instead would also work.

They would have to increase the cost of guildmark abilities like 25fold if they did this though... I mean I could get around 20k guildmarks in 1 leve reset like this.

Well let me clarify what I meant by what I said. I don't mean that you can choose to always get guildmarks, just that when guildmarks are the reward it doesn't say Archer marks: 1250 or whatever. It would just say Guild Marks: 1250. Then you choose what job you want the marks for when you start the leve.

It is no different than only playing one battle class cause when the option for marks appears it is always that one class. I don't have an excess of archer marks in the slightest and as you can see from my sig, that is really the only battle class I play. Any time marks appear for me in the leve range I take they are always archer marks.

I like this idea. Simply making guild mark rewards (but not the marks themselves) universal would allow you to experiment or level classes for abilities without penalizing you for doing so. Like, I wouldn't mind seeing marks for a class I don't play so much except that means I'm either taking the leve just for the mobs or leaving it because I'm going to get no reward.
