SCHOLAR - Let's Start a "Best Practices" Compendium

I love healing but only started very recently. I would love to learn when to optimize the use of certain abilities. I would love to hear what your "best practices" are....

    For Example....

I've come up with a priority system. I use only Embrace if party member is 85%+ hp, Physick when they are 70%+, 50-60% Adloquium, and Lustrate for 1%-50%. For example, if tank dips to 40% I woud lustrate, followed by Adlo, followed by PHysick until topped off.

Also, I rarely use Sacred Soil on Tank only and use Shadow Flare instead. If i know there is no fear of death for anyone in the party, I pair Shadow Flare with Swiftcast.

For bosses that hit hard during certain phases, I rotate Rouse/Virus/Eye for an Eye and Fey Covenant to keep up consistent heals or consistent damage mitigation. Only using one as soon as the effects of the previous has worn off.

I have macroed Rouse with Whispering Dawn and Fey Covenant with Succor. All of my Scholar heals are macro/paired with Pet Embrace including (lustrate, adlo, and Physic). I am also considering pairing Embrace to Leeches because target is usually taking damage at the same time i'm trying to remove the debuff.

I would love to hear your style of healing and when/how you use certain abilities. Is there something specific that you do that you are especially proud of?

I would loved to learn some of the cool combinations people do to make themselves efficient and awesome..... please share.

    My usual spell priority goes a little along the lines of;

80%> HP = Adloquium (because it's hard to overheal with it plus gives the target the extra HP cushion, giving me time to look at someone else.)
    40-80% = Physick
    <40% = Physick & Lustrate bursts

Of course, it all depends on the fight and what mechanics are in place.

There are rare times I use Sacred Soil on just the tank such as Turn 1 Caduceus with a bunch of stacks and Turn 4 buffed Dreadnought or Double Dreads

I might as well join in :

Tanks> I almost always make sure to keep Adloquium up on them, giving me some breathing room for a second.
    80%> Usually just an Embrace
    50-80%> Physick + Embrace
sub 50%> Lustrate + Adloquium + Embrace (and possibly a Physick if needing to be topped off)

I personally don't like seeing HP bars dip below 50% in most cases. If I know I have some time before they potentially take some more damage, say a DPS, I will just pop Embrace on them and go about my healing.

I do use Sacred Soil a bit, even on a solo tank target. Turn 1 Caduceus is a good example. If I have Aetherflows to spare, my tank is running low on defensive CDs, I will pop one, otherwise, it would be a Swiftcast + Shadow Flare. Also, inbetween Swiftcasts, I will burn an Aetherflow stack for a Sacred Soil instead of taking the cast time.

Sacred Soil vs Shadow Flare for dungeons:

    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...s-Shadow-Flare

Consensus is use Shadow Flare for the slow and safe Aetherflows for Lustrates.
