Range finder? Yes, please!
AoE indicator? Yes, please!

Range finder? Yes, please!
AoE indicator? Yes, please!

First of all, I agree that it would be awesome to see an AoE range indicator, as well as a range indicator from the current target.
These seem like good ideas however there are obstacles to consider. Although most visually unfulfilling, out of these options a symbol above the heads' of affected mobs would seem most plausible. When considering the idea of a mob flashing, there could be many inconsistencies. For example, when taking into account the possibility of a monster being a very light or bright color (assuming the flash would be white toned) like a jellyfish, the flash may be hard to see. Also the duration and number of times repeated of the flash would have to be considered, as it would be hard to see in a busy or crowded area which mobs would be affected by the AoE if it was a single quick flash.
As for the area on the ground, it may be hard to find the right graphic as well as color that would be suitable for every situation. If it's blue-shaded circle on the ground, will you be able to see it if the ground is blue toned as well? Also this may create problems when drawing on uneven terrain. One more thing to consider is the different terrain types. Aside from the landscape being hilly or something like that, it would also be hard to see in grass and trees ect, as well as under shallow water depending on the opacities.
Lastly if they were to implement these functionalities for the Conjurer class, the would surely feel obligated to add them for Thaumaturge, and for that matter, even other classes such as MRD and ARC ect. When considering this, it greatly adds to the difficulty of creating a uniform AoE indicator. For example, as we all know, THM and CON have very different AoE types. CON AoE having a center of origin, being the target casted upon, extending outwars in a circular fashion. This is much different from the THM's AoE which consists of a cone-shaped range from the position the THM is facing when casting the spell. Next would be MRD AoE, which you would have to take account when and how the AoE becomes activated, and then on to things like Weaponskill AoEs, of which there are many different ranges and AoE types(ARC's Arrow Helix vs Wide Volley vs Puncture). Overall there are many different types of AoE's (circular outward from origin, cone, target and everything in between ect.) which again raises the difficulty in trying to create a both practical and aesthetically pleasing system of indicating either the range or area of AoE and/or showing which monsters would be affected.
In any case, an AoE indicator, as well as range from target tracker, would be very much appreciated by myself and, I'm sure, the majority of Conjurers and all other classes alike.
P.S. sorry for the long response just bored![]()

Would be a nice addition to keep us conjs among the living

Yes, that would be good addition

It would be rather handy, more so for Thaumaturge AoE as it has such a phenomenal range. It becomes hard to judge where it ends.

A range indicator is a simple suggestion that would vastly improve gameplay for CONs. A targetting line, at the very least, would make it simple especially for those of us who use CON and THM and go nuts trying to determine what spells will connect with mobs/players. An added bonus would be that, when you switch classes, you'll have an obvious reminder that your range is completely different!![]()

Need to add the AoE for all classes as a cone/pie-plate/marker on mobs or whatever. Range-finder on hotbar would rock too! Nice to know (pre-cast) it my target is in range!

im totally on-board with a toggle for some form of indicator for AoE, maybe during the cast mobs within that spell/ability's range will glow slightly? or maybe have a cursor over their heads? great suggestion!

after more thought this may be a good opportunity for SE to totally change spell casting without making any drastic changes the the combat system.
example:
Remember the cut-scene with the sexy kat-conj casting a protect "force field"? same basic concept, but more of a flashy spell load-up that displays the radius of the spell about to be cast. and each spell have its own unique looking "radius-loadup effect". like... for a fire spell have small vaguely noticeable fire whisps that fly around the radius of the AoE spell.
just an idea ^^
