No, I dont, which is why I said its their choice, but they should at least be informed about what their decision means exactly, especially a new player such as the OP who clearly has no idea how the endgame in this MMO works. Sorry, but EVERY Final Fantasy, EVERY RPG is about finishing the story and seeing the end (Aside from sandbox RPGs). MMOs = massively multiplayer, and that means being level 50. You wont find the "massively multiplayer" experience while leveling, especially when you're playing months after the initial launch. Like I said, you don't have to race for it, but that should be your goal: to finish the story, reach the end, beat the game, and watch the ending at some point, eventually. Don't know where you're trying to go by disputing this. I never said you couldn't enjoy the journey to the end, but you're not doing anybody any favors by not enlightening them at least a little bit about the nature of MMO endgame. I don't pay any one's sub fee but mine, but I encourage people to be smart with their money and their time, not remain ignorant in their naivete.

Lets be realistic here. Yes you can level you way to end game with crafted gear if you so choose to spend your time doing it and you will be spending a lot of time if you choose that route. Yes you can make money with crafting and resource gathering which also takes a good amount of time.

But.......The people who know how to do this properly aren't going to come onto the general forums and ask how to make gil in the game. Random poster 787654 asking how to make cash and also stating they burned through their quest reward cash with teleports most likely isn't going to have the knowledge or patience to do this. For that person, the most logical thing to do is continue with the story line quests, using the duty finder to get dungeon runs for gear, and save the money from burning through teleports.

Oh my God, and you know what that means? That means she'll never be the best of the best in a video game! THE HORROR!

Seriously, dude. Just stop. Let people enjoy playing the game the way that they want to. This is a game filled with people who rushed their asses to 50 and now complain about how they have no content. And then you have someone who wants to take their time and enjoy different aspects of the game(like crafting and gathering), as well as getting a different sense of accomplishment and your advice is to...ignore all of that and just get to 50, because otherwise they'll fall behind?

For reals yo! Oh, until we all run out of content and she catches up anyway. Or until the next i100 items come into the game and don't require i90 to get. Or until they add crafted gear that is closer to/caught up to the i90 stuff and she'll have her crafts done. . . The gear people spend hours upon hours grinding for is outdated the moment you own it, like computers.

    Right on with the sentiment

I'm not forcing OP in any way to use one method or another, merely pointing out the pros and cons. If you want to take your time and play the game, go ahead and do so. Players who ask for advice do not need to be told to take it slow; thats what they're already doing. Players, especially new ones, should know just exactly what that means, and a person new to MMOs should definitely learn just how MMOs work. Maybe you are okay with mediocrity and never improving or changing, but I for one want everyone to be their best, play their best, and know what they're getting into. OP asked for advice, so I assumed that they're somewhat interested in self-improvement. If you read my posts you can see that I don't care what playstyle you choose, I only care that you're educated about the nature of the situation and not simply wasting your time and money.

You two seem to feel fine oppressing new players and keeping them unaware about the bigger picture.

Peptaru not sure why you suggest its favorable to wait for content to be outdated before you experience it. That is awful advice and that is essentially robbing the OP of very valuable and fun experiences. Why play the game now at all? Just wait a few more years for expansions to come out lolololol

In any case, I still highly suggest getting one character to level 50 reasonably quickly, and then play however as you want with future characters/classes. Once you have a Lv50 you can go back and play slow-mo on another class or character if you want, and still have the option to make gil quickly at anytime, and still have the benefit of experiencing the game with the vast majority of its players.

What you are suggesting is for them to waste another month or two's worth of time and money doing something that can be done within a week, without all the options and bonuses above.

Go fast, go slow, doesn't matter, just know that if you go slow you put yourself at a severe disadvantage for every single bit of content in the game. Less players queueing up for those dungeons/raids, less people doing FATEs, less gil to earn, etc. Eventually if you're too slow then content becomes outdated as people outgear/outlevel it and then by the time you get there, you're not even experiencing the content the way it was meant to. Sure this might not matter to you, but new players should still at least be aware that consequences like this exist.

...We're playing a game, man. All we're doing is wasting time and money. I never got this whole rush to be as efficient as possible in a video game. The entire point is that we're being inefficient.

I never got this "we're playing a game so we can't be efficient" argument. For many, including me, games are a test of reflexes, skill, knowledge, and logic. If I wanted to shut off my brain, I'd just watch TV. Video games should be about engaging yourself. For many, we can't play 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Don't hate on people who enjoy using their heads a little bit. It doesn't ruin the game, it only enhances it as it allows us to fully experience the game while challenging ourselves every step of the way.

Please don't listen to people telling you not to take gear upgrades. As someone who remembers leveling up in lowbie dungeons as a healer, please take gear upgrades for my sake and the sake of healers everywhere.

With that said, you have a couple of options. You should make about 250-300k just from leveling off of quests. But here are some other things you can do:

    1. Sell item drops like Scalekin Blood, Hides (Toadskin, Boar, Raptor Skin, etc), Diremite Web, Fleece, and any non-bound item rewards that you receive and don't need.
    2. Start leveling a gathering class. Sell shards, crystals, carbonized matter for materia melds, dye pigments, and various other things you gather. Botany will give you things like lumber, various Culinarian and Alchemy materials, etc. Mining will give you ores, gemstones, and other crafting components (Alumen for Leatherworking, Effervescent Water for Natron and Twinthread, various salts for culinary and alchemical uses, etc).
    3. When you hit a place where you "stall" leveling (i.e. you run out of quests while needing 1 more level to get to the next leg of quests), use your leve allowances. If any sort of armor or weaponry is offered as a reward, sell it on the marketboards - you'd be surprised at the money you can make off of some of the gear that is rewarded in leves.
    4. Not really "making" gil, but avoid teleporting when at all possible. This will eat up your money like no one's business!
    5. Start leveling a craft - using the gatherer class you are already leveling to compliment your chosen craft (i.e. Botany for Weaving, Culinarian, and Carpentry, Mining for Goldsmith, Armorsmith, Blacksmith, etc). While most (if not all) crafting classes will require items from all three gathering classes (including Fishing, sometimes!), having even one gathering class available to farm the ingredients you need will cut down on the money you have to spend to level the crafting class. Sell the items you create if at all possible. You can also use the items (if they're something like gear for your battle class) for leveling and take the Allagan pieces instead of gear rewards (which will net you more money).
    6. Crush items that you no longer need into materia if they are 100% Spiritbonded. While you won't get a lot of gil for those lowbie materia, it's usually more than you would get for simply selling the item to a vendor to clear out your inventory space.

Had more to say about each question but these forums have real low character limits lol
If you edit your post you can exceed the 1000 character limit.

i havent seen anyone mention this yet, at level 45 you get 4 pieces of your job specific gear (which is ilv 50) and the final piece (chest ilv 55) at level 50.

so just be careful about spending money on gear as you get closer to 45.

your job specific gear is free, just requires a simple quest ^^
