You can farm all the materials, including the shards, for every synth if you put in the effort. Crafting costs you nothing that way; and it will make you money if you do leves with things you gather yourself.

Crafting costs you either gil, or time, which is gil. Any player is much better off just focusing on reaching Lv50 first by completing the main scenario quests and the side quests, and you do not need any crafted gear for that whatsoever.

You're nothing if not consistent... Back on point; I too made my own gear as I leveled, weapons, and armor, and gathered it all myself. It was a great time. This whole "Time is money" in a game which designed as a way to pass time is flat out silly. Not everyone wants to rush one job to fifty so they can grind the same 2 dungeons over and over and over and over and over and over.... 1k character limit, I should stop there.

Any player is much better off enjoying the game instead of treating it like a second job, unless that's what gets you off.
