The mechanics Yoshi and his team have selected to stretch out content and thus keep people subscribed are inherently dull, so the game is dull by design.
The main target of the methods the game has is to make the player (feel) bad for not playing, creating the sense that they are falling behind if they do not max their Myth each week, get their Coil run complete and get the CT drop of the week, because if a week passes and you did not fill those, you cannot recover that again, and you will be behind the rest of the people who did. Adding to this one are the new Beast tribes daily quests, if you don't do them, you won't max their reputations whit everyone else who started at day one. This is also enforced by the fact that crafted gear is worthless at high level, so if any player want to do the end content, they must pursue all the other gear.
I know everyone plays at different pacing, but the sense is there, if you are playing with a friend and you cannot log in one day, you will be behind him. So the game is now a set of tasks that must be completed daily and each week, and as such, they get old and boring, fast. The game it's designed to force you to play, whether you are having fun or not, and most probably, you are not having fun, not with these tasks the game is imposing. The fun comes form the play time with friends and the human interaction. Maybe the fights and instances were fun the first 10 times, but after all the forced grind, they aren't. And with this, if the fun comes from playing with friends, the Duty Roulette forcing you to go alone, just detracts from that point because you cannot even /tell your friends inside an instance (and no, not everyone has their same friends in the same FC/LS or want to talk about everything wherever someone else can read).
There are many other design "flaws" in my eyes in this game, but those are the biggest, and they won't change because this is Yoshi's vision for ARR, and looking at the changes they made through 1.0 to 1.23 and then further to ARR and now 2.1, it seems it's only to get worse and worse.
I already quit and canceled my subscription, and I'm sad about it, because I was really invested in FFXIV, but it's no longer FFXIV, it's ARR, a game I really never wanted to play.

Good for you canceling your sub. Hopefully they get you playing again. Instead of content patch we just need huge adjustment patch to the game.

If the adjustment includes a slower paced combat, interesting exploration and a dangerous world, open world instances, crafted gear being the best in the game and the physical/class level separated again, I may come back if not... I have until April to post in the forums while my sub runs out.
Crafted gear being the best gear in the game forces you to use rmt, which is the exact reason why I quit playing ffxi, because you were forced to buy gil to progress through the game. The day the game becomes like that I quit playing. If the adjustment includes a slower paced combat, interesting exploration and a dangerous world, open world instances, crafted gear being the best in the game and the physical/class level separated again, I may come back if not... I have until April to post in the forums while my sub runs out.
Forced to RMT. . . Seriously? That is a personal decision which is made by people who cannot or will not put in the effort. It forces you to farm, or craft on your own; it does not force you to RMT. People who use RMT always try to find reasons to justify it.
Nothing forces you to use rmt. You just use it because you want instant gratification. I know how it is, I played Diablo 3.
So much would need to be redone. If the adjustment includes a slower paced combat, interesting exploration and a dangerous world, open world instances, crafted gear being the best in the game and the physical/class level separated again, I may come back if not... I have until April to post in the forums while my sub runs out.
First thing would be...
slash 1/10 gil again.
Make Materia chances rarer.
All gathering materials rarer.
Adjustments to all side & main quests rewards.
Adjust repair costs/housing costs/removal of npc items from shops
All materials get 1/10 slash.
Adjust all exp rewards for gathering & crafting levequests.
Lower Fate EXP reward
Make Fates Rarer Spawn
Lower Dungeon EXP reward
Lower Monster Exp reward
Change Crafting system where you cant HQ everything.
Dungeon item drop rate drop to 30% and lower.
Lower drop rate of all currect 100% items. Such as Primal Weapons, gear etc.
Make Crystal Tower drop all loot at the end of the dungeon.
Remove Phil & Myth rewards after content
Lower chances of gathering HQ items.
Remove player's class levels earned through patch 2.0 & 2.1 by 50%.
Increase enemy damage under lv50 by 25%~30%
Add tier5 Materia, lv90 craft gear, new materials
Adjust how what materia comes from what gear.
Make all currect equipment with Materia on it Blank Materia.
PVP gear has no materia melding risks.
1.0 items will be useful once again.
Adjust crafting recipes
Equipment adjustments
Option to resell equipment like in 1.0.
Pretty much all of that would be first step to fixing this game. Alot of players already got levels, gear, materia, gil, items and a reset is needed to repair alot of the damage already done.
Future adjustments
Allowing players to re-obtain blank melded equipment to its currect status with some risk.
One Class= One Job
Class/Job Adjustments
Give SCH its own class.
Reseting ARC point attoement
Allow more cross class actions on Jobs.
Adding new types of Materia with stats like double attack+ & TP+
Converting all treasure maps to Leather Maps and adding tier system where you find maps in other treasure map chests. Doing more higher tiers of maps increasing the rarer loot & harder enemies.

I know I would quit the game if half if what you put in there changed.
Don't think you speak for everyone.
