New To Dragoon, How Does It Stack Up? Is It Worth It?

    Hello Community!

Normally I main tank, but decided to branch out and try a fun looking dps job. Dragoon is about as close to dark knight as it comes, so went with that option. But my question is with 2.1 updates, how viable is dragoon compared to all other dps? Is it the weakest? Should I just reroll monk before I get to deep into dragoon?

Dragoons have very good pyshical burst damage, and when you gear em up their damage is quite impressive.I got an alt char dragoon ((so i could myth 2 jobs at same time)) and now that he has most af2 pieces, rips stuff apart pretty quick. Its a worthwhile and fun class try it ^^

    Dragoon is fine.

In my opinion the DRG is basically the best DPS class at the moment for DPS. Monks do about 8% higher sustained single target DPS, but they have much poorer AOE, less burst damage, and are much less resilient against mechanics. But, they have the Int debuff and traited Mantra for utility, which are notable highlights.

Go Dragoon, MNK and DRG played by equally skilled players...you aren't going to see any discernible dps difference.

i picked a drg for bigger numbers. i dont think monks can hit for 1400. and they look so much better with wyrm but i guess thats my opinion. but either is good for dps

DRG is a really fun class to play once you get the hang of it. Learn the rotations and don't be a TTT noob :P

Also, you will need to be very good at dodging red; a lot AoEs are magic damage, and since DRG have the worst magic defense, they hit hard and can potentially OHK you, especially with BFB up.

But...if you intend on just running PUGs with it...you may want to rethink the class. So many bad DRG out there that cause those of us who are good to get passed over too much for any other DPS. Yes, you can DF it...but the queues are just bad for DPS. If you have a group to run with, go ahead and have fun!

I love the job. On these forums you'll see 'best DPS' list pre- and post-patch with dragoons never at #1, but we're not bad at all... if you play it right. And I really doubt it's the weakest, but I haven't played the other DPS jobs myself. It's a lot of fun, and I can't deny we look good in the wyrm set.

If you're serious about DRG and end up levellng it, read the 'Dragoons: A Rotation Reborn' thread. That thread helped me a ton with the job.

I've played both the Monk and Dragoon now at level 50 w/ full darklight and relics, and I finally decided on Monk because it seems to fit my desired play style more. Both do great damage. A Monk's will be higher if you have a fight you can easily keep up 3 stacks of GL, and have access to the flank/rear of your target at all times. A Dragoon is less restrictive, takes less time to get up to speed and doing damage with all it's buffs/debuffs up, and has more burst. I find though that I can consistently out dps my dragoon w/ my monk on most fights. Both are challenging due to being melee and the player having to understand all the positional attacks of the mobs, but I personally find the monk to be a more challenging/rewarding play style due to their mechanics.
