Agreed, I really hope that FFXIV gives the same fond memories and experiences that I had in FFXI ^^
I want to see this game reach its full potential and succeed- that's why I'm still here![]()

Already returned. Most MMOs nowadays are no good.

Not having gear handed to you on a silver platter doesn't cut it for this generation, so I don't think they're out of touch really, it's just this generation of MMO gamers are getting a lot more fickle by the month.
I logged into Xi for first time in a long time. XI was my first MMO and has a lot of special memories. It was fun to see how it felt like to push a menu button and actually have an instantaneous action without any lag whatsoever.![]()
But I quickly realized what many others have already iterated, and that is XI had it's moment in time, and that time has passed.
In a way I feel a sense of excitement in 14 that I did 11. Not the same type of excitment though. In 11 my excitement was exploring new areas, quests, and working for new equipment. In 14 it is for what the future holds in patch 18!!!

I've feel the same along with a few of my ls we considered going and starting a fresh in 11 but in the end decided against it, feeling our good memories of 11 would be tainted and the stuggle and sense of achievement wouldn't be the same. It got many of us worried that they would make ff14 too easy and that they would be just handing out gear for very little effort we are hoping that they make the dungeons hard and the drop rate poor so that it gives us all something to work and strive towards.I logged into Xi for first time in a long time. Indeed.
I was actually for a lot of Abyssea's stuff on paper; however after seeing everything in August, I retired to playing XIV - came back a couple months ago and regret ever supporting Abyssea. It is not the FFXI I grew to love, so there's no way I can go back unless they do a rollback to pre-Abyssea.

If this summer tanks in terms of updates, then I know my LS is calling it. Not going back to XI either. Tried it couple years back and it was not palatable. We will find other things to do until later this year when Tera comes out. Plenty of my guys are moving there.
As much as I love FFXI, I wouldn't go back. I rather keep those fond memories... Besides, like JayvireDeforte said, there are new games coming out soon, and quite a few of them it seems. I was interested in Tera also until I seen a screenshot of the UI. It is far too similar to WoW's UI for my liking. I will have to wait and check out the reviews on it.If this summer tanks in terms of updates, then I know my LS is calling it. Not going back to XI either. ^^ The image of the UI I was referring to. FFXI was my second favorite after EQ, but there is a time for all games and like others have said, XI has passed for me. I look forward to the upcoming ones though, hopefully the industry has learned quite a bit with how bad 2010 was for MMORPGs.
