Fire the person that schedules the server outages (maintenance)

FFXIV servers have repeatedly been taken down just before a long weekend or holiday and it makes no sense. Tomorrow is Christmas Eve and most people have Christmas day off. Since they have Christmas day off, they will probably want to stay up late playing FFXIV. However... Someone keeps deciding to take the servers off-line just before a holiday, such as the afore mentioned Christmas or on a Friday before a 3 day weekend.
If this happens once, it's once too many times.

Oh boohoo, the game is barely going down for three hours, I'm sure you can manage. Besides, this might surprise you but it's actually not a public holiday in Japan - it's business as usual there.

If you're getting so angry over something so trivial as this, maybe it's just as well there's maintenance, because you seem to be the sort of person who needs a forced break from the game.

You guys are missing the point.
Just to make sure we're all on the same page... What I'm saying is that if you feel you need to take the servers down, why not do it tonight rather than Christmas eve? Deciding to take the servers down tomorrow, doesn't make sense when it could have been done last night or tonight.

That's all very well, but shouting at SE to fire the engineer responsible for maintenance planning in your thread title is not going to win you support from anyone, least of all SE. And before you pass judgement, FFXI is also going down for maintenance at the same time.

There's been tons of threads like this from people like inconvenienced by the timing (hence my narky response, which I admit I could have been more diplomatic in, I'm sorry about that), and it is unfortunate, but the fact is, SE can take the game down at any time they need to for maintenance (it's in the terms of service we all signed when we registered the game). Someone will inevitably be inconvenienced by it no matter what time and date SE does it, and sadly you got the short stick.

I am not expecting support from anyone on this forum. I posted this and mentioned firing the engineer(s) responsible in an attempt to hit a nerve, and be noticed... apparently it worked.

This further drives my point that if there have been TONS of threads like this, this is probably an issue that should be addressed.

Everyone understands and accepts the idea that they have the right to take the servers down anytime. Let's stretch this idea and say that they decided to take the servers down for 24 hours starting Christmas morning at 0600 Eastern... That's just dumb... The whole point is that there are better days to choose, like December 23rd.

It's about the needs of the many rather than the needs of the few. I'm GUESSING, that there are a lot more people Christmas Eve that wanted to stay up late playing (since they had the next day off), than there would be on December 23rd.

I must be missing something... What does the fact that FFXI is also going down have to do with WHEN they take the servers down? Not a snide comment, but an honest question.

It's like a brand new machine with lots of gadgets and moving parts which need to be lubed and oiled so it doesn't rust or get jammed:
-Right out of the factory they're trying to keep it fresh for the road ahead.
-SE want's it nice and shiny with a couple layers of wax and protectant.
-The machine also need fresh anti-freeze everyday to keep the engine cool and without corruption.
-The system also need to be diagnosed to evaluate progression and checked for viruses.

It's well known the system has a possibility to be flawed and has a few exceptions so it shouldn't bother to be monitored and updated. It feels like BETA testing all over again but it's known as routine care.

(!) Remember all those bells and whistles people keep asking for to make the game better? Each of those add-ons "betters the quality of life" in the game to keep players happy...

There maintenance is always at a convenient time.. Middle of the night for us. Heck in japan there doing it in the middle of the day and i don't see them complain...ever..Its a set time on the same day.. every week to few weeks (unless its emergency) easy fix to not get angry, don't focus your play time in the middle of the night every night o.o
