Commendation System: So who get's your vote?

After a series of chain pulls, does the bard switch to a tp song to get everyone else back up to snuff before momentum is lost? Does it look like the healer is keeping me up, without extreme over healing.. is the WHM casting holy where I KNOW they can help out or just being lazy? How is the SCH making use of their fairy? WHen everyone is at full hp other than myself and my hp is above 90%, does the healer toss a stone skin etc out there as a preemptive measure? (This is ridiculously useful for stack management on Ifrit EX) Some players play on the PS3, they have a good reason not to chat a lot.. it can be a pain in the ass to do so.. some people have been running a dungeon all day, eventually robot mode kicks in.. that doesn't mean they are a bad person, it certainly doesn't mean they aren't friendly. A Commendation ought never be related to social skills.

When you queue up for a dungeon with another player(s), you are not allowed to give any commendations to anyone. At minimum, that is 2 players out of 4 that cannot vote.

I don't usually commend people who are jerks, but I don't see why someone talking to you has anything to do with how they play their class.

Nothing. But nothing says commendations have to be given based on skills. AFAIK they were implemented to reward those who are friendly and helpful, rather then gaming skills and gear.
Myself, sure value that more, since it's harder finding nice people then it is to find decent players. And I sure enjoy more a run where some wipes/derps happened but everybody laughed like mad all the time, then a flawless but boring one. I play for fun.

I give mine to someone who stood out to me. If no one "stands out" to me, i give no commendation. I usually do give commendations though. I find myself spreading them out quite evenly. Did the tank hold aggro and pull well? Did he quickly correct mistakes?
Does the DPS hold back the damage in pinch spots to avoid taking aggro if the tank had a weak moment? Does a DPS player stun/silence occasionally on trash?
Does the healer keep us so high on HP that we aren't even worried about damage?

Pretty much this. I try to avoid falling into the trap of "commend the tank/healer" If the tank never loses aggro or the healer pulls us through some near wipe experience then sure I commend them. But if one of the dps is being on the ball with mechanics, not eating avoidable aes, etc, etc then I'll pass it their way. If its a all around excellent group I usually just throw it out randomly or give it to who was the friendliest.

Unless someone absolutely stands out my vote goes to my fellow DPS (unless of course he or she's an absolute bastard of a person).
We DPS don't get that many as it is, no matter how social we are and I'm not going to beg for them.

As a tank, I commend the healers. As a DPS, I commend the healers.

They do the job that I hate the most, as a necessary evil, and deserve my respect. Most content in these games is already hard enough in terms of dodging things or requiring movement, so things get made harder by just increasing the amount of things that need to be healed through or mechanics are ignored because the healer is compensating with more burden on their shoulders. So you healers out there get my commendation every time, you're doing the dirty work so the rest of us can PVE and I salute you!

Edit: I should probably mention that I feel like healing has two speeds in MMO games, boring and PTSD-inducing. There's no relaxed amount of damage taking.

First of all I count how nice that person is. Friendlieness is the most important factor for me. After that efficiency. As a healer, I try not to give it to the tank too often, if there's someone else worthy ofc, because I'm sure they're the ones they get more, since as a tank you stand out more.

Lol? Absolutely not. It's just usually dps don't get it even if they deserve it, just because dps is a lesser responsability role. Why should tank get all the commendations just because he chose to roll tank?
Also what do you have against communism anyway?:P Bringing politics into a forum will earn you nooothing good.

As a healer, I give a commendation to whoever plucks the aggro off of me when adds spawn. Usually that is a DPS player. If it's the tank who takes my healing aggro from the adds, then the tank gets commended. Nothing irritates me more as a healer than being swarmed by adds that are totally ignored while the other 3 members of the party are trying to kill the Big Guy.
