Should I still use Medica 2?

It seems in most AOE situations, Medica II isn't enough to top people off anymore, necessitating the use of Medica I afterwards.

Oftentimes, a large portion of the Medica II HoT is wasted due to the excessively long duration.

So my question is, when is it a good idea to use Medica II + Medica I instead of just two casts of Medica I?

Medica 2 as a main aoe heal has become alot more situational now.

In Garuda Ex and Titan Ex . Its not really optimal at all. Due to how the damage happens and the shape of the battlefield.
Its decent for ifrit Ex especially if your party refuses to stack up for cure3 for some reason(pugs etc).

Remember that it still has 5 more radius then Medica. Meaning for large area fights like ultima ex and Ifrit Ex it will hit ranged who are further away.

Its weakness now is that it costs quite a bit more mana then medica . Its also much safer to get people to 100% hp asap then to leave people at 70% with the regen ticking. Choosing to do so leaves people in KO range.

However the regen effect is still healing while you can do other things or are moving. If you have the mana, toss it preemptively . No point ending the fight at 80% mana.

Medica 2 isn't a main heal anymore. That's the thing you have to try to adapt to. I use it as a fire and forget 30 second regen. Cure 3 can more than do the job and if you don't need the big bursty heal than just use medica 1. Otherwise always having a medica 2 up, especially in big fights is convenient.

I look at it this way, medica 2 is now our version of passive fairy heals. Use it, love it.

You'll want to use Med II on boss fights mainly. It helps lessen your load on healing everyone and gives you more time to focus on the tank or time to utilize other abilities. A prime example of this would be Pharos Sirius. Med II coupled with a full party SS buff will ensure that my group won't get "as" hurt by Siren's screams and it allows me to use less mana to cure someone up to full since they will be regen-ing the whole time. Regen + Med II is amazing for healing someone. They simply took Med II and made it into a cast and forget spell which is something I believe WHM needed to begin with (considering that Regen produces so much aggro).

Try practicing with Cure III. The easiest way to start getting a grasp on this spell is to de-select your target (after two or more need the heal) and run up to where they are then cast the spell on yourself to radial heal around you and not the targets that need healing. This way you can select where the radius will begin and end and not your group members (since they move around a lot). Only use this method on trash pulls though lol.

Medica is/was ideal even before the patch as a quick aoe heal. I think medica 2 is better now the regen effect lasts longer.

Try playing around with cure 3 now that it is half cost with +overheal proc.

I think the added duration of medica II is nice, so I just keep it up when I have spare time and MP during fights where there is Aoe damage. Even before the patch Medica I was higher potency so it feels like they have just made the purposes of the different spells more clear.

I personally like the change. Been using it the same or more than I was before. Probably a lot more than before, I have it ticking all the time.

I'm treating Medica 2 as more of a group regen now, with Divine Seal of course. It works well against ADS damage ticks in Turn 2 and I found it very useful pre-casting it before tough AOEs in Haukke Manor and Pharos Sirius.

Our AOE healing as a whole has definitely been nerfed though. We just have to make do with what we have.

Last time a WHM with Medica 2 can near always heal a party, most of the time, by him/herself.

Now a Medica and Succor does the job just as well or if not better due to shield. I feel this is just a change of game play as before a SCH would not even bother to Succor or would anyways, causing alot of overheals.

Medica 2 is now like an AOE regen, that works well with Succor too. Allowing us to focus on tanks.

Not to say bad stuff about DPS, but FF14 is build in such a way that most of the time DPS should not be getting any huge spike damage. If your DPS player keeps on getting damage spiked, he/she is doing something wrong. End game content is not really forgiving to making mistakes. The new Medica 2 fits into designed for this gameplay really well.

Except sadly you cannot expect dps to always be pro and on top of their game at every instance.
