    The current state of the game and the future

    Where do you see the current state of the game? is it going the same route of 1.x? or does it have a long life ahead? what is your opinion?

    I wasn't around during the 1.0 days I have no idea what the state of the game was in that's why I ask the question.

    I think the foundation of this game is very solid, and has an exceptional amount of promise.

    People complain that 2.1 didn't add a anything new or substantial, I say it was very substantial for a content patch and if this is a hint of the quality of future updates then the coming year will see this game grow a great deal.

    I don't know, I like the game. I didn't do all the content yet and I'm having fun with it atm. I didn't play 1.0, though, I guess it had a good overall critic and I dont' think it'll end the same way that its previous launch.

    I wasn't here for 1.0, but I can see the potential with 2.1.

    I say its doing well I lost interest a bit before but was ready to come back anytime. I am full in now and don't see myself dropping it again anytime soon. I enjoy gearing out different jobs, havent gotten to do coil yet but thats ok theres plenty to do.

    I believe 2.1 established the finer details to the game's groundwork. It has a solid base now in which other patches can begin to focus on elaborating endgame whilst adding content on the side for the other type of players. 2.1 was not targetted towards the endgame player, it was a massive quality of life patch with interesting and fun endgame stuff on the side (Albeit not very impactful for endgame progress). Imo, we saw great polish in this patch and, if it is of any hint towards the future, I think the future to this game looks good.

    The game is very nice. The complaints about "lack of content" are common place in every MMO forums, just go and check. The game itself has something for any kind of player. But, of course, the content isn't infinity, at some point you will have completed everything, then you will have to wait for SE to add more. Just like in any game. If Square keep up with the overall quality, FF14 will be here to stay.

    Think it's in a pretty good place. One of the most captivating experiences I've had, and the presentation is way up there in my book, so that's a solid foundation. It has a lot of flaws though, but so does every other MMO.

    I see both sides of the content coin. There is plenty to do, but not very much of any *one* thing.
    PvE : Content lock on il80/90
    PvP : 1 battle arena
    Crafting/Gathering : no substantial market

    Also if you were already 50 on all classes from 1.x there is less to do... but you should have expected that, and that the game wasn't only going to be catered to post 50 gameplay.

    you can run all the dungeons you want but at a certain point it's not player progression (aside from the gil/spirit bond from killing enemies) which is a hard bullet to bite.

    Coil : 2 hours (turn 1-4 with a static group, maybe even turn 5)
    Crystal Tower (assuming you lot a random piece first run) : 1hr
    Beastmen Daily : 30min x7 = 3.5hrs
    Capping Myth (250 tomes) = 2hrs (assuming daily high level duty finder, and 30min)
    total : 8.5hrs of regular gameplay a week to hit your daily "caps" of max-level content.

    now if you add time for *other* content, or for not having a static this balloons quite a bit.

    I do think the game has promise though and as more content types appear the lockouts will be less of a problem with players spreading around the time they spend in each bit of content.

    I think the game has a lot of potential, but it's held back by a lot of really bad base-level mechanics.

    Everything combat related is server side, not client side, for example, is kind of a kicker. Abilities (and certain stats in some cases) being hampered by the forced animation lock. Etc etc.

    Not being able to dodge things you've clearly dodged and DoTs not rolling properly.

    The "raid" being about 20 minutes of content until you hit the brick wall that is Twintania, and it being 30 minutes of content after you get the fight down.

    I dunno. I like this game, I think it has a lot of potential, but there's some basic design principles and net coding that I think need to be fixed or just outright changed before it can really boom anywhere for a long period of time. :x
