FFXIV practically forces you to jump while kiting because using an ability automatically faces you towards your target. If you're running north and your target is south of you when you cast Scathe you will start running towards him unless you jump before you cast.

The fact that you've been playing games for 15+ years and are unable to grasp this simple concept is mind boggling.
There's an option to turn facing off and i cast both on whm and gld and it makes me shake my head knowing people still haven't figured this stuff out.
