    [Suggestion] Cross Hotbar [PS3]

    hello.

    Currently

currently you can hold down the L2 or R2 and while doing that press the opposite corresponding key, R2 or L2. and this brings up half of a XHB corresponding to the order in which the buttons were pressed.

you must hold both L2+R2 at all times to keep the additional XHB up.

    Suggestion

using Toggle or Mixed mode to keep up the additional XHB even after releasing one or both of the buttons. if we can release both buttons then the next time you press L2 or R2 it just brings up that portion of the XHB of your last used XHB. or by default could be Set 1.

    Greetings,

There have been some comments about the newly added feature for gamepads, which allows you to access more cross hotbars by simultaneously pressing “L2+R2” in different combinations, and how it’s a bit difficult to use. Below is a comment from Hiroshi Minagawa regarding this topic.

Without a doubt, being able to have these additional cross hotbars displayed full-time would be the best; however, due to additional display stress for the PlayStation 3, this kind of display is not possible. Also, since there are limitations on the save files, the file size would be 1.5 times greater with each additional cross hotbar, so this is not possible. I apologize.

We had looked into implementing individual programs for the Windows version and PlayStation 3 version, but the workload would have taken much longer than the current schedule and would have resulted in the dropping of other features’ implementation, so we decided that implementing like this in patch 2.1 would be the best method to increase the convenience for players.

well that is fine. but i wasn't really speaking about having the additional XHB displayed full time. what i mean is like in Mixed/Toggle mode current if we just tap the L2 or R2 button. that portion of the XHB stays up.

so if you press and hold L2 then press R2 which brings up the right half of an extra set. maybe you could release L2 and still have the right half up. currently if you release the L2 it goes back to your previous set(or set 1 i dunno). and the right half of set 1 will be opened. this seems simple. and i believe it will help make the XHB a little more fluent.

and then maybe a way so that even after you release R2 the additional XHB stays. though it would stay active as if toggled open. and the next time you press L2 or R2 it would just bring back the other set and open the side of which ever button you used. however this one is not so important.

we can do without any improvements really. honestly the new functionality of the XHB is wonderful.

i for one am glad to see this and love it.

so even if you don't plan on making any further improvements. i am sure PS3 players will be still be happy.

in any case. thank you for the response, Camate!

I just tried it out for the first time today and I think its absolutely perfect and one of my favorite changes so far. I see how you could make a few tweaks for how specific people like to play, I do not use toggle but some do.

I personally use Hold, and this new change suits me greatly. We now have access to possibly 8 or 16 new skils. This to me means I no longer have to sacrifice skills for space.

I do not see the need to change the XHB any further than it is now. If anything, it took some time getting used to but people should not be discouraged to adapt to the new changes

Can you at least make a legacy hotbar happen for controller users? There are a good number of people who have a difficult time with the cross hotbar and wish for a legacy method.

Well, I've been playing XI for 10 years using a controller, so switching to this XHB is extremely difficult. Also there isn't enough space for all my abilities and I feel like I'm not playing the job to the fullest because of that. It's very frustrating to know that I can't play my full potential on the only way I know how to play. Some people got used to the XHB, I simply can't. 60% of the time I find myself hitting the wrong button or switching targets trying to hit the right button. It'd be so much faster/easier for me if I had a legacy hotbar like 1.0 had. That was the best way for me to play.

I find the XHB far easier to use than 1.0s, and I played XI for 7 years only on a controller. The system did take a little getting used to, especially as I already had 50 jobs and many abilities. Given the speed of the game is faster than it was in 1.0, the newer version feels better. I do sometimes still hit the wrong buttons (rare, but it happens); then again, I also did the same in 1.0 whenever the nice UI lag made an appearance.

From my own experiences having used both I'd expect that, whilst it may be comfortable for some, it would suffer in game play performance in comparison to kb/m (keybinds help greatly) and controller users using XHB than using a game pad legacy set up.

Not that I don't fully appreciate having more options for those who prefer that system. I just think it would add to problems more than solve them; especially when you meet those kb only "enthusiasts".

My only gripe with the controller is that I have limited options for button binds, particularly the ability to make a button do nothing. I used to have a PTT bind on my pad for raids, so I didn't have to hover my finger over the keybind.

I want a regular hotbar for the controller because it's what makes sense to my brain. The XHB just doesn't work for me, I want something more traditional.
