    How exactly does /isort work?

    Problem solved:

    I've just realized that
    /isort condition armourychest category asc
    /isort execute armourychest
    gives the same result as
    /isort execute armourychest
In other words, everything in the armoury chest belong to the same category, i.e. "gear".

    Problem solved.

Now I would really love to have a role condition, that would sort gear according to what role it was intended for. E.g. tank, heal, dps.

    Old post below:

Please take a look at this picture:

I sort my AC by descending order of item category. Just this one condition. The results shows:
    • Purple: seasonal gear don't below to the same category?
    • Red: tanking gear (i.e. only GLA/PLD/MRD/WAR) also got separated?
    • Green: DoH gear is put in-between DoM gear and DoW gear.
    • Yellow: DoL gear also separated

Could someone please share some insights on why it's doing this?

I'm trying to write a macro that would sort Tank gear > DoW > DoM > DoH > DoL > Seasonal/bonus items, or a variation of that order but in those grouping. Then within each grouping, sort using iLv and then Lv. But I'm getting stuck on the very first step of sorting stuff into sensible groupings.

    Any hints would be appreciated.

Perhaps try doing a "/isort clear armorychest" first?
It may still keep the previous/default "condition" command, so the "by category" sort is now the last priority order.

Nope. The result is still the same.

And I just found out that category doesn't have order argument. "des" and "asc" will come out the same.

I would really like a dev post on the exact workings of the "category" sorting method. What exactly does it do?

    Queston 1. Why are
    /isort condition armourychest category asc
    /isort execute armourychest
    and
    /isort condition armourychest category des
    /isort execute armourychest
giving me exactly the same results?

Question 2. Why does the above macro in Question 1 put my Lv.40 tanking gear and my Lv.15 tanking gear in different groups, with healer gear and gathering gear mixed in-between?

If I'm identifying all those icons correctly, your helmets are sorted by descending ID #:

    Snowman Head 6968
    Aetherial Mythril Celata 2813
    Cavalry Mask 2772
    Aetherial Steel Celata 2756
    Torturer's Monocle 2748

Aetherial Silver Circlet (Heliodor) 2742 (The gem may be different; there's a set of sequential numbers here.)
    Velveteen Bandana 2727
    Aetherial Reinforced Iron Sallet 2726
    Aetherial Iron Elmo 2724
    Doctore's Chain Coif 2721

    Gridanian Soldier's Cap 2715
--- I stopped going from the top down here and did a few from the bottom up ---
    Dream Hat 2642
    Helm of Light 2634
    Moogle Cap 2633

Most likely, "category" is worthless for the armory chest, because it's already divided by category (helms, gloves, etc.), and when it doesn't find anything else to sort by, it goes by ID #.
