Horrible, Sudden and Weird PS3 Lag

Hey everyone, I previously posted this issue in the Technical Support board but I thought it may be better suited here as I haven't heard anything from anyone over there yet. I do apologise for my impatience.

I've begun to experience some very bad/weird lag. I'll start by saying I've never lagged this badly before. Up until I logged on tonight, everything had been fine.

When I logged on, I noticed that it took quite a while longer to "load menus" up such as the FC board or my skills when I switched cross hotbars.

After that, I saw that animations for skills I use would take a good 1 or 2 seconds to actually play which was very annoying. For example, I stood on top of a branch in Larkscall (East Shroud) and used Spineshatter Dive on a Molted Ziz. I should be on the ground, right? But nope, the Ziz lost the correct amount of HP as normal, but the animation did not occur until WELL after, so far after, that the Ziz had recovered from the stun and walked up the branch - only then did the animation play.

Well, I do admit that was a severe case of this "animation lag" but the general concept persists albeit less serverely. I've never had this type of lag before so it did come as quite a shocker. However, issues with getting out of AoEs and all of the "usual problems" associated with lag are non existent.

I don't think it's a connection problem since my brother plays FFXIV in the same house and his game is absolutely fine. My internet connection on my other devices such as laptops is also working as usual.

Though I have been having some problems with my PS3 (Slim). I had to hold the reset button because it wouldn't switch off quite a few times - wondering if this has anything to do with the problem? I've also had the game crash on me a few times - a lot more since 2.1 hit.

Any idea on what I can do? Reinstall the client? Wait until the hotfix?

I had to scrap a refurbished ps3 because of the same initial problem. I was expecting it because it was refurbished. I got about 6-8 months of solid consistently lag free gameplay out of it until it began not shutting off like you've described.

I play on 2 ps3s and have noticed a difference in laggy online play between the different ps3s. The one my wife uses is a tad bit slower for instance. I use the other one because I pvp.

Sounds like your ps3 could be on it's way out. The one I exchanged got so bad in fact, I couldn't do a fate with 3-5 people present without seeing lag spikes.

Haven't played today though...it's all these presents ^^

Ah it's a PS3 problem? Wow that really does suck since the slim I'm using is a replacement Sony gave me when my old one died. I hear SE are performing some network maintenance tomorrow so I guess I'll just hope for the best until.

Nah not a PS3 specific issue as PC do have similar issues.
Myself I do get lag as well on occasion but my current PS3 is a super slim so fairly new.
I do hope SE look into optimization and really hoping the PS4 will run great (60fps)

Oh I see, this issue just really caught me off guard because I have never lagged unexpectedly before. I mean, I have experienced lag but that was when I KNEW my internet connection was having trouble. I really do hope it isn't a hardware issue and that SE will resolve the network issues in tomorrow's fix.

I've been having extreme lag issues on my PS3, since the 2.1 patch.. Not exactly the way you describe, but still bad enough to make the game mostly unplayable.

I've double and triple checked my router and port settings, and done speed tests to places all around the country. My connection is rock solid, and I only have issues with FF14. It seems like the game servers are dropping incoming packets.

Mostly things animate normally, but the actions don't end up going through to the server. Casts do no damage.. Movement doesn't actually happen, but I can see everything everyone else is doing normally. Sometimes after seconds, other times after a minute or more it will resolve and I'll get a stream of unable to complete action messages as the server finally starts processing things again, but most of the actions aren't valid anymore. If this happen during a dialog it can take half a minute or more to finally quit the dialog.. If it happens and I skip a cutscene I'm immobilized until things correct. Can't get on or off a chocobo or make any other state change that requires server acceptance.

The server only actually drops the connection maybe 1-5% of the time.. The rest of the time, I'm just stuck watching and being useless.

I'd hoped it had been fixed in the patch last night, since early this morning things seemed a bit better.. But the server may have just been having less issues from a lower than normal load.

I like the game, but as it is its unplayable.. I've already canceled my auto-renewal, and if it isn't fixed soon I'll be asking for a refund of my last month.

Seems there are quite a bit of network problems for some players. Like you said, we know it's not our connection so is there any hope of getting a fix, or at least a response, from SE? C'mon Square, the game was great, 2.1 has been a blast, but now these weird "lag spikes" are ruining the game for a lot of players. I really hope we can expect a reply.

I have a newer slim PS3 and I have the exact same issues that Zhorangi is describing. My downloading never gets interrupted, and on my screen I can see people in the opne world running about or in dungeons doing their thing and they never "jump" or "hesitate" which are indicators of lag from the server down to me. This lag only exists on uploading info to the server from my PS3. When I am in a dungeon, I'll be in a fight and on myscreen, I'm maneuvering, fighting, just like normal. But on the screens of my party, I'm way back in the dungeon just standing still in a hallway. Finally after what could be 30 secs-upwards of 2 min, I'll sync up with the server and "warp" to where I am on my screen. My party mates see me way back there in 1 second, and the next I'll be right next to them.

This upload lag has shown up for me in gathering too, when I'm doing leves. I'll get to a node, start farming and every now and then I'll just lock up for 1-2 min. Eventually, the server will recognize my command, execute it, and my gathering attempt will take place. Not just gathering attempts either, but I can get this delay with any gathering skill I use (leaf turn, etc...)

This has made the game pretty much unplayable for me as well, as no one wants to go into a dungeon with a laggy DPS. I am also thinking about cancelling my auto-renew if this can't get figured out. I love this game, but only when it works.
