I loved jumping puzzles in Guild Wars 2. Yes, some of them were incredibly challenging, but I don't understand quitting GW2 over the jumping puzzles since they're entirely optional content. Rarely did I find the challenge was because of clunkiness with the system. The non-optional encounters that had jumping in them were simple obstacles to jump over and didn't require any degree of skill or luck to bypass.

That said, jumping puzzles will not work in FFXIV, even as completely optional content. Jumping in this game has so little control that puzzles would be nothing more than an exercise in frustration. At least in GW2 you had control over your character's direction and placement while in the air. In this game once you've jumped that's it. If they changed ARR to allow more control over your jump, then I could see it working.

After decades of playing shitty platformers... no. Just no. Please, god, no. Take this idea, burn it, bury what's left in the deepest, darkest recesses of the earth, and forget about it for time and eternity.

I remember the jumping puzzles in GW2, and to some extent even SWTOR (datacron collecting). There were some times where it was fun, and many many many other times when it was extremely frustrating and trying. Some of the ones in GW2 I just gave up on. The last one I did before I quit GW2 was after they had the Lost Coast event. God.. that damn jumping puzzle. I must have spent hours upon hours trying to get it right before I finally made it to the end with a few other people.

I'd rather FATE grind than do jumping puzzles in FFXIV.

I never have so much trouble for finish JP in GW2, perhaps the only one who I really risk to destroy my pc was the one hidden in the south of Malchor's Leap. The problem of the JP in GW2 is that at the beginning they were only an optional content without any advantage or special rewards and it was really good. Then, like you mention it, they became part of the farm of achievement points during this special events. I do not want that but, I suggest again, put JP in the "Treasure Hunts" for example that give some gils and some crafting materials (nothing special) they can put something like JP for make them different, instead of the same random fight.

I want more platforming and Chocob racing. And I want the Chocobos to actually be harder to steer
and feel more realistic. (Even though they aren't real) But hopefully one day they can be
we can just make a Chicken Ostrich Hybrid in a lab and....

There doesn't have to be a pot of gold int he game as a reward at the end. A jumping puzzle to add variety and give it an achievement is enough for some people. It's enough for me too, I loved finding the jumping puzzles in GW2, I did everything I could to never look online for a solution or where they were located. Made it exciting.

Totally agree, everything add variety is a good thing.
Btw, I found a platform-style jumping puzzle at the end of a Treasure Hunt a lot more challenging than a single and pointless fight.

Wouldn't be opposed to puzzles, but mainly would just like to see FFXIV make a bit more use of heights in general. The game is practically 2 dimensional.

I like the idea of crypt-exploring and jumping around. That's why the Obsidian Sanctum (if they'd remove the PvP element) and the crypt in (I believe) Dredgehaunt were the two absolute best parts of GW2 to me and what I feel the game should have imitated throughout. That said, the OTHER jumping puzzles in GW2? Not so good. Both because they felt forced in and because the engine just really wasn't conducive to it (worsened by the actual design of them... If you're a Norn or Charr, you cannot fit on that platform. So rather than making it look reasonable for the puzzle, we'll just let you hover 2 feet away in the air...)

For FFXIV, the movement engine feels so clunky, there's no way it'd work. If they want to revamp it entirely so it feels as tight as, say... Devil May Cry, I'd welcome it though. Then tear down the invisible walls, expand the borders of the zones, and the world will feel a lot less awkward.
