Join in progress and CT

Joining CT in progress doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, since unless I'm mistaken, every boss has a chance of dropping any of the available items... Unless you're specifically looking to enter one where someone has ditched, why would you want to start anywhere else but the beginning, so you have more chances at the item you want?

No, drop is chest specific. Behemoth tend to drop body, Archeron drop hats etc.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. After going 0/15+ on a drop you are looking for in one week, and each run taking about an hour, then yes people are going to abuse the Duty-in-progress system. Blame the terrible loot system, not the players.

I got my chest piece from Acheron last week, leg piece from Behemoth just now (and later Acheron drops healer's leg piece).

They're at least semi specific. The first two chests never have anything other than Feet, Hands or Waist. And the last two are Body, Legs or Head. Now which of the two your specific set piece comes from may be fixed. I don't think i've seen the same one from both chests.
