    Why leave your shield at home!?

    I love being a GLA DD but there is no reason not to have a shield as of right now regardless of your role... The description of a GLA says that some marry sword and board while others just focus on their sword hand. I for one am somebody that willl run around with no shield for the look but in battle i know i would be gimping myself. My solution to this is that SE should do one of two things...

    1. Give a buff for not using a shield
    2. allow us to dual wield swords(even if that becomes like a trait we can get from the guild)

    there are practitioners who marry sword with shield, seeking to defend their fellow companions. Others opt for an empty off hand, choosing instead to focus entirely on their sword arm.

    This is straight copy/paste from the GLA description which means they are suppose to be able to DD since every 1 handed user carries a shield to DEFEND their allies in every rpg i ever played or know about.

    I would like to see going shieldless result in increased spellcasting capabilities.

    A great idea. There should be a reason not to use a shield and currently there isn't one except for looks.
    Even with all the ideas abut how jobs will be implemented based on Yoshi-P quotes. If GLA can become a PLD or DRK there still will be no purpose in not having a shield(unless DRK abilities can't be used with a shield).

    The problem here is that you are quoting a page that still lists Chakra and Steal as Pugilist abilities. These things were said far before beta even began, and it's obvious things have changed since then.

    The class has since been tuned more towards a pure tank and less of a 'hybrid' class. If damage is what you want, why not just main a class that has primary abilities to allow you to do so? Why does GLA need to be able to become some crazy DD?

    It doesn't have to be some crazy DD its just that with the way Yoshi-P describes what jobs are it is possible that a GLA can become a PLD, DRK, DRG, and THF which in the last 3 cases why not still hold a shield? Unless the abilities would need off hand to be empty or shieldless.

    There is a thread about this already but i will sum it up.

    Class = Weapon Specialist
    Job = Role Specialist

    Seeing as when you pull up the equip list for your off hand slot it shows your swords in it I'm sure one day (probably through the addition of Ninja and getting the dual wield trait) you'll be able to.

    But still using a shield is much better DD if anything right now because of Phalanx damage.
