Calling all Time Warner Cable folks in SoCal

Plain and simple. Tier 3 tech named Dave wants your trace routes if you are in the SoCal area and having problems on TWC.

Please submit trace routes before, during, after lag, spikes, ect.

TWC is trying to nail this stuff down but some user submitted tests would be very helpful.

Please send all Trace routes and any other comments and concerns to

    scustomer@roadrunner.com

    Subject: Attn: Dave Re FFXIV

Please be doing a trace route to your server.

    Midgardsormr is 199.91.189.35 for example.

    Find your server @ http://arrstatus.com/

Dave is also monitering the other threat that was stickied to the top.

Make sure to get the IP your client is actually using. Get this by either running netstat in a CMD prompt or loading Resource Monitor and noting what the ffxiv.exe is using in the TCP or Network sections while in game (run cmd or resmon from run/search box). The ones starting with 199 are the ones in Canada, while the one starting with 124 is Japan.

The IP shown at arrstatus is not necessarily the IP your client is actually using. For instance, they still show Midgard is on 199.91.189.28, and not the 199.91.189.35 noted by the OP (note this may vary slightly from user to the user, as I am also on Midgard and use a different IP from the OP).

If you've looked it up in the past, may want to double-check it again--mine has changed since the 2.1 patch with the new data center selection. It still uses 199.91.189.74, but only for the lobby now. When in game it is now using 199.91.189.25 when in the game (used to use 199.91.189.31 for duty instances, but haven't checked that yet since the patch).

This may prove important depending on just how the ISP's are going to diagnose the problems you guys are experiencing. They may wind up needing the specific IP's you are using and not just the destination subnet.

So this is because of TWC? I decided to finally make a forum account so I can ask about the unbearable lag I sometimes receive. I really hope this is resolved because it makes the game unplayable at times. I just logged off because of how bad the network lag was.

In some cases, there has been issues on the local segments... but for the most part it looks like the groups they partner with to get traffic routed across the US and/or into Montreal that are having issues. Providing the tracert/pathping of your particular route will help them focus their efforts more effectively, as it shows both exactly where your packets are going, as well as where they may be getting delayed/lost along the way. It also provides them with specific details so they may be able to better isolate packets for inspection--in case the same header issue O2 found in the UK may still be at play here.

    Thanks for the reply.

I did a traceroute and the average is 1271ms. It's just unplayable at the moment and it happens all too often. Fingers crossed this is fixed.

Thanks OP for contacting them and making this thread.

If only more people were trying... we've been calling for people to do this for nearly 3 months now. Many of us that have followed through with it have had their issues at least improved dramatically (still not fully resolved, but big improvements have come out of it). I've had my latency nearly cut in half... still getting more loss than I'd like, but at least with the lowered latency it is manageable for the most part.

The big trick has always been convincing techs/admins at the operations centers that there indeed is an issue worth investigating--one of the biggest catalysts in the process is providing tracert/pathping results that capture signs of trouble (things like consistent/intermittent massive lag spikes or high packet loss).

I did as the OP asked and sent the info.

While I purchased the game on release I didn't start playing it until November (just been really busy). So during the month that I have been playing I had assumed it was the game. I didn't even think about it being TWC. I guess I can give them a call but their customer service is awful. I have been on the phone with them so many times throughout the year that I am just sick of it.

I had an issue where for 3 months my Internet and phone were going off and on. They sent about 10 different technicians over during this period and every single line was replaced. They finally tell me that they don't see anymore issues and it's working fine; they don't know why I'm still having trouble because I shouldn't be. After about a week of them telling me this it magically started working. Just recently our TV service had horrible freezing issues and after a month of dealing with them it now works out of nowhere.

Anyway, sorry for the off topic rant but it seems that something is always going wrong with TWC for me. So the last thing I want to do is call them again, wait for over an hour, and hope I get a competent person. With that said I am very happy to see that the OP found someone who cares.

For you guys doing tracerts, are your packets being sent through a bunch of Level 3 Communications nodes? I asked about it in another thread, but no one replied about it. The reason I ask is my connection, from southern AZ, travels over to Los Angeles (after going to Kansas, lol) and then follows a bunch of Level 3 Communications nodes all the way to Montreal. Along the way, I get tons of packet losses.

I don't suffer from any packet loss. Mine travels from Cali to Texas to Chicago then Montreal.
