What's with the large houses facing the wrong way in Gridania and Ul'dah?

Seriously, I don't understand this at all. In Limsa the large plots all have the house facing the gate. In Gridania and Ul'duh the house on large plots faces sideways, and the gate to enter the plot actually has you walk into the side wall of the house.

Are the red 'template' markers on the floor just bugged or did someone really screw this up?

I noticed this too and it bugged me! To any actual house owners: Are you able to construct the house wherever on your plot of land, or does it have to be in the red area? Do you get to position it at all?

I'm not sure they are facing sideways. The width of the red area, being the front wall of the house, is always parallel to the entrance. The door might not be directly in front of the gate, but I'm pretty sure they're not sideways.

If you take a look at the Limsan plots which a few FCs have already built large houses on the house is at the back of the plot, covering the entire width with the front door facing directly towards the gate. It is placed precisely where the red template marker was and the front door is in the middle of the long edge of that template. Assuming the red stuff on the floor is correct then the houses in Ul'Dah and Gridania are indeed facing sideways.

Considering my FC just got the Large Estate in Gridania, this is still the case but it's not that bad. It would make sense to have the house facing the road, but hey, can't complain too much. My FC has a Mansion! ... With a 200 item limit so it's pretty much empty! Way to go SE!

That's funny the large houses has too little item count and the small houses are filled to the rim with items because it's too tiny.
