    Thrill of Battle

I have been manually using this so far but it seems like I don't use it maybe as often as I should.

I was thinking it just tying this into my Heavy Swing so that it will just trigger on cooldown. Any reason not to do it like that?

So far I have been using it as either a pre fight buff or mid fight when no other cooldown were left I would pop Thrill and Second wind as just something to pop.

You want to pop it right before big hits.

That sounds like a terrible idea... Why would you want it on CD 100% of the time?

basically what the guy above me said. Use it to mitigate damage with the free hp.

Well, it's only +hp so it doesn't really *mitigate* anything. It'll help you survive a big hit, but it's not going to reduce the amount of damage you take (which is one of the reasons why it's actually the weakest tank CD in the game). The two uses I've found for it have been as a self heal (it heals more than Second Wind because it's based off of max hp instead of attack power) and as a burst survival ability that helps you survive but doesn't really lower healing requirements (you have to pair it with Conv to actually get the same benefit as straight DR).

You're arguing over my wording? ToB increases our max hp and heals the amount of increase. Meaning we get X hp for free for a period of time. So if you know you're going to take damage then pop ToB to essentially get a few thousand "free" hp and use them to absorb a chunk of the incoming hit. When ToB ends you lose the hp increase but not the free hp as its already gone. It functions just like mitigation.

It increases your EHP so it does mitigate damage. Just as Rampart increases EHP on PLD.

My WAR has around 7500 HP with Defiance. I pop that before a mountain buster that'll hit me for 3k then in theory (with full HP) I have mitigated 50% of that attack as my HP is +1500 than it would be if I hadn't used it.

That's not mitigation. That's burst survivability, which is eHP. eHP and (mean) mitigation. (Mean) mitigation refers to how much less healing you require over a given period of time; the word "mitigation" literally means "the act of lessening the force or intensity of something unpleasant" which +hp simply does not do. eHP is simply a determination of how much punishment you can take before you require healing, which Thrill of Battle *does* do. By increasing your hp, you're not reducing the damage taken; you're simply increasing the amount of damage that you can take before you fall over. They are entirely separate constructs. Some things that modify eHP also modify mean mitigation (like DR and absorb shields), but there are plenty of things that only affect one (like pretty much everything else); in no way does this mean that they are the same thing.

Thrill of Battle does not mitigate damage just like Convalescence does not increase eHP.

The only "mitigation" that ToB provides is derived from the heal (which is required to make the +hp actually useful since the game measures hp from the bottom rather than from the top) and said heal only has a mitigating effect if you are not topped off when the effect of ToB ends (because it drops your hp to your old max hp); the maximum amount of damage that it *can* mitigate is 20% of your max hp per use, which means that it occurs 20 seconds *after* you use it, and only once every 2 minutes which makes it provide marginally more than Second Wind (and way less than what you get out of IB or even Storm's Path) while providing you with less real control over it (since it's not really up to you what your hp is at 20 seconds from when you use it).

You're pointlessly arguing semantics. Frankly I couldn't care less how "mitigation" is defined by whatever source you those to use to define it. While it may not "Lessen the force or intensity" it certainly "Lessens the effect" by negating a portion or even all of the damage.

ToB gives you more HP for a given time which means that the bonus HP can he used to mitigate, alleviate, reduce, diminish, lessen, lighten, weaken, attenuate, allay, ease, assuage, palliate, or relieve some damage negating the need to heal said damage. You're not "wrong" but you're also arguing for the sack of arguing. Does using lots of words make me sound smart too? I think not.

You're acting as if there is some kind of "Webster's Dictionary of Anal Retentive Tanking Terms".

    8000hp + 1600hp (ToB) - 1600dmg = 8000hp!

I play on ps3, and there's 8 hotbars each consisting of 16 slots for abilities. as a WAR, I found that I ran out if room pretty quickly the closer I got to lvl 50 and the more WAR abilities I gained. I ended up 'gimping' myself for the longest time by only having the most used abilities on 1 hotbar, since using more than 1 seemed like a daunting and potentially confusing task, and basically not using half of my abilities. 2.1 rolled out, and made me stop and think to myself, "now ive got all these other abilities that are really useful, but I have no room, what an I to do?" .. I came up with a solution that works easily for me using a total of 3 hotbars.. basically I set up BB, SP, SE, IB, and 2 or 3 other abilities, a total of 10 abilities, all in the same spots over the 3 hotbars leaving me 6 slots per hotbar, for another 18 abilities. it was kind of a mess at first having to retrain muscle memory and keeping in mind where everything was, but as I played more and more, and little tweaks here and there, it's now rather easy knowing what's where when I need it. and basically my 1st bar (after the initial 10 abilities) consists of extra 'attack' abilities, 2nd bar is for damage reduction/increase defense CD abilities, 3rd is for self healing/self preservation CDs and abilities, ie: ToB, convalescence and whatnot.. it may seem redundant to some people that I'm taking up 10/16 slots on every bar with the same abilities, but for me it's helped out tremendously being able to keep my combos going no matter what bar I'm currently using, while being able to quickly find that particular CD without bumbling my fingers around.
