Clarification on gambling rules.

Not sure the best place to post this. I sent a message to the GMs in game and received a generic message saying to post on the forums.

My FC just ran a very successful 50/50 raffle internally with a prize pool of over 3 million gil. We are considering opening our next 50/50 raffle to the entire server. I would like to know SE's official stance on in-game gambling as well as the advertisement necessary to garner interest.

We have a very fair and transparent system that leaves little doubt regarding the validity of the outcome and are willing to stake the reputation of our FC on it. I feel like this is much better than the 1-100 roll gambling from before and can be handled on a much grander scale.

I take it that would deem illegal as it would be easy to defraud people. but ultimately no idea, i guess what for SE to get back to you.

Anyway, gambling IRL isn't necessarily illegal. And, as we're talking in-game currency, I would imagine the lines would be blurred somewhat. I'm not a GM though, so don't heed my advice

To be honest, i would like to gamble on here is some forms, i very much enjoy that and given you cant waste RL money on here i cant see the harm. If it was a F2P where you can buy currency to gamble with i can see the issues but not here :-/ Gambling is huge is Japan... bring it to the game!!

I'm pretty sure the gambling is referring to real money bets, not gil.

Gil gambling was really big in XI for a while, but it fell out of disfavor not because of any Square crackdowns. People just realized that most of the time it was a scam based off the rarity of certain /random roll outcomes. I'm sure if XIV had a /random you'd see alot more gil gambling.

Ya if it's anything like ffxi it should be fine. People did gambling all the time. They even put a dice game into it after a bunch of years (which I think no one ever bothered using lol). My LS used to also host events to everyone on the server (ie. naked races with gil prizes), and SE never cared.

I learned a lot about raffle logistics when doing our FC raffle. I wanted to make it as transparent and fair as possible. Ticket purchases were mailed to one of two people. All purchases had a receipt issued via mail. We had a public google doc showing current ticket sales and the size of the prize pool. We used a raffle website called random picker that would lock the results and timestamp after a roll was performed so there was no way to just keep rolling over and over to get the desired result. I also streamed the process on twitch.tv on draw night and we had a drawing event at the Gridanian Amphitheater. You also had the option to search the results to verify that the tickets you purchased were taken into consideration for the roll to prove that no data was modified while exporting it to the site.
