At low levels I feel I'm better off using my stacks of Inner Quiet on Rumination than BB on 40 dur items. If I use BB, then it takes TWO turns to finish the progress bar using Careful Synth. With Rumination, I can use ONE TURN of Standard Synthesis (and have the CP for Steady Hand if I need that too). Ideally, I'll use BB, and have steady hands up, and the CP for standard synth... but it seems like it doesn't work out that way as often as you'd hope.

    Ideal:
    Inner Quiet
Steady Hands (need SH2 to eliminate rng)
3 touch skills - probbaly basic touch to save CP
    Master's Mend
    Touch
    Steady Hands
    Touch
    Byregots Blessing
    Standard Synthesis

    Real:
    Inner Quiet
    Tricks of the Trade
    Steady Hands II
Standard Touch because you got good condition
    Basic Touch
Standard Touch because you got good condition
    Master's Mend
    Standard Touch
    Steady Hands
    Standard Touch
OOPS!! Not enough CP for both BB and Standard Synth so, Standard Touch
    Rumination
    Steady Hands
    Standard Synthesis
Basically, you have to substitute Basic Touch for Standard Touch in order to save the CP for standrd synth at the end. So using BB does come at a cost of using basic touch instead of standard touch TWICE.

If you need to use Standard Synth to complete progress in one turn, while the other synths take two turns, then the 'free' CP from rumination is even more valuable.
