If you are a MMO veteran, do not be surprised that the pre-50 levels will be "too easy", especially if you are not into story/"enjoy the scenery while not rushing through every dialogue box".
Also, seems that you picked Marauder. I leveled all magic classes to lv50, my main is WHM. Compared to WHM, even BLM is a lil' boring...so not sure about tanks, but with mostly instant-cast skills, the 2.5 GCD can be quite obvious. This is not the case for casters with cast time.
It is explicitly stated by developers that this MMO is designed bearing in mind that many of the FF fans will be first-timer to MMO, barring FFXI.

I enjoyed the story, the NPC dialogue (yes I spoke with all NPCs as the quest progress, not just the quest giver), and even those NPCs who doesn't have a title over their head (they will only say something if you move close to them), move to all corners in a new map, took a lot of screenshots, tried out a lot of armors for the look, laughed at a lot of the quest title and names (my favorite so far is an inn's name called "Eternal Sleep", lol), collecting minions, bardings, tried gathering/crafting (but stopped coz running out of inventory space @_@), love the music, weather, starry sky, and running around with UI turned-off...I am having a lot of fun even before reaching lv50, and still having a lot of fun especially after patch 2.1.

But your mileage may differ, to each his/her own...your fun may start later, or never, so...not sure what will trigger your fancy, but I say try to do all activities mentioned above, get into an FC, at least get a char to lv50, and try out a tank, a melee dps, a ranged dps, and a healer so see which one suit you more.
