    Crafting system a cheater?

I'll never understand how the crafting system can be completely random where one time I do so well that I have over 60 durability at the end of it in one attempt and then have ten failures in a row in another instance. I swear the game cheats some times just to spite you in your crafting. It can't ever be consistent...

Use better crafting gear, fix your stats, get synth support, get craft books

Healer strike is ridiculously foolish and accomplishes nothing

    That doesnt help at all.

In fact it makes it even MORE random.

If you are able to do a synth perfectly once you should be able to do it perfectly every single other time as long as its the same synt. The other way around is also true, if you fail horribly you should always fail horribly.

There's NO excuse for such a random chance to craft.

Actually, it DOES help. Yes, the result is a little random, but the things I listed DO help. At r22 weaver, without weaving training, I failed 1/3 of my canvas cloth synths. Once I got weaving training, I only fail 1/6-7 now. I got rank appropriate gear and decreased that to around 1/8. With guild support, it's around 1/10. This is doing a r29 synth at r22.

Also, what MHB3000 said, sub-crafts help a ton on the few synths that require it.

The last two numbers you made up from placebo effect. Of course books help success rates, you sustain 50% more durability loss without them compared to a synth that doesn't need them. Gear has next to nothing to do with success rate unless you grossly fail or succeed, it's more like a lightswitch than a continuous gradient of improvement. You either have the craftsmanship required for the synth and do well, or you don't and you suck at it. No middle ground. That's why levelling changes your outcomes so crazily, it alters the craft or mcraft you need for the synth.

Guild support does nothing for success rates, don't care how many crafters swear it does.

How about an HQ's at 10 quality or NQ's at 500 quality? That brings (Excitement!) to my crafting!

As Wynn said, it's because the system is set up on a Random Number Generator. Every synth attempt has a chance to succeed, and a chance to fail. If you pay attention and tailor your action to what's happening with the element, use abilities, get the appropriate training, use appropriate gear/tools, and get Guild support, you can increase the chance that you'll succeed on any particular synth.

What sets FFXIV crafting apart from other games -- like WoW -- is that crafting is a mini-game. It's not a "click this button and you''ll automatically make this item" task. If you play the mini-game well, you'll increase the chance that you'll succeed. But there's always a chance that the RNG Gods will frown upon you and you'll fail.
