Sex between the Races Lore?

Probably said already but it was confirmed that if two races interbreed, 90% of the time the child born takes after the mother. So if it's a Hyur father and a Miqo'te mother, the child born is Miqo'te. Only under rare circumstances does the child become a hybrid, the most drastic case we've sen so far is Hilda during Heavensward. This is why we don't see so many of them walking around. It's a case of it being rare. The reason Hilda stands out is because her backstory involved nobles and commoners, so there was no hiding what happened between her parents.

The child taking after the mother thing is fanon from an RP website, not canon. There is no case at all of mix-race kids looking like 1 parent only.

To add, I'm not sure if it's still the case anymore, but at least around ARR-time it was considered taboo to be in a serious, committed relationship with someone from a different race. Casual flings seem to be fine considering how many miqos were hanging around hyur a lot. There was even a same-sex couple who ran away because their relationship wasn't approved by their families. Not because they were same sex, but because they were a miqo'te and a hyur. Before present, pretty much all the races were at open war with each other as they came back into Eorzea after the calamities and the racial grudges last to the present time.

The reason we don't see mixed-race children is because of the old taboo and probably because it seems it would be difficult to conceive if we're all different actual species. Inter-clan relationships seem to already be present. Yda/Lyse/Minfilia are all highlander women who look like midlanders. There are a few keepr miqo'te with seekrer names and the other way around as well.

I'm not so sure these should be used as examples simply because they're characters from 1.0, and in that version of the game half the races were mono-gendered because they were imported from FF11 and that's how they were there (so midlander models were 'close enough').

That said, you're probably right that it does occur, as it would be probably be both easier and more accepted between clans than between the different races.

Arenvald has no Garlean traits. Although some Garleans aren't that different from Hyur anyway (see Cid), so it's hard to say for sure.

Well, he does have a lot of the Garlean physical stature more than Highlanders (not that Highlanders are not physically impressive themselves), and there was also the tragic aspect of his backstory where his mother thought a pimple in the middle of his forehead was growing into a Garlean third eye when he was still a young boy (which she promptly removed in the most horrifying way), leaving his forehead permenantly scarred (it's why he has that 'X' tattoo on his face).

Whether it really was a third eye is never confirmed, but the game definetely seemed to tease the possibility.

This reminds me of a time I was bored in Castrum Meridianum and was talking about how jacked Cid is for being a researcher. Dude looks like he gets his swell on at the gym at least 5 times a week. Someone in my party responded, "HE HAS NO WRISTS!"


I do wonder what Arenvald's dad looked like. Arenvald himself is a case of them wanting an interesting character, but only using standard character creator and nothing additional for his appearance. Garlean physiology is kind of intriguing. There's the talls, the smalls, the musculars, and then the Zenos/Emperors... practically the size of Roes, even without the armor.
