IMHO, the races/species are too similar to warrant half-breeds. They're different sized/proportioned versions of each other, so you'd end up with a Miqo'te/Hyur that was basically just a tall Miqo'te or a Elezen/Roegadyn that was really just a slender Roe.

They'd probably be outsiders too. Can you imagine an Elezen with cat ears trying to get on in Coerthas? Or a Roegadyn with cutesy-wootsey button eyes and nose from its Lalafell mother?

    *INC SCIENCE*

In the game, the races should be called "Species", cause that's what they are. Races are within species. Species cannot cross breed. Birds can't have babies with humans. Humans can't have babies with sharks. HOWEVER, difference races (or breeds) can mate and have children. We see this in dogs. 2 different breeds of dogs mate to create a mixed dog.

"Races" was prolly used cause it sounds better than "species". The clans are more like races. 2 clans can mate and create hybrid offspring. F'lammin is one NPC who has a Seeker parent and a Keeper parent. She has a Seeker name, but Keeper features (dilated eyes, fangs, etc).

    *END OF SCIENCE!*

Yeah, but then they are not separate species are they?
By your own definitions! Hyur/Elezen (and probably Miqo'te) can all cross-breed.

Being able to breed does not make them the same species. The question is whether or not their children are fertile. If their children aren't fertile, they likely aren't the same species (but are very closely related, sort of like Horses and Donkeys, which can crossbreed - producing Mules - but their offspring are sterile).

That is only assuming that the biology laws of Eorzea work in the same way as they do in our universe. I think the best way to explain this situation is too look at other MMOs.

TERA for example, as it has been explained through lore and various cross-breed NPCS that, the child always takes the apperance of the mother in regards to what race/species it is while both parents contribute to the lesser genetic makeup (Hair color, eye color, skin color, etc.). Pokemon also works this way so whos to say Eorzea doesn't also work in this fashion? Atleast untill they actually explain where baby Lalgagyns come from..

That same text also seems to imply that said girls have a STD (ok, technically 'crotchrot' is not a STD but a fungal infection, if I'm not mistaken. But he still got it from them).

    Also, Lalgagyns xD

Funny that I would have expected them to be Keepers of the Moon, since they're the ones that worship the goddess of love, and in fantasy worship of love goddesses almost always involves a lot of sex. >.>
In all seriousness, while I am not asking for this to be FFXI-II, it's a bit saddening to see that compared to the Mithra, the Miqo'te have little to garner respect for. The Mithra, while having the most asinine legal system ever (Sin Hunters), were a far cry from strippers and entertainers. I guess it just feels like they're treating the scantily-clad catgirls as scantily-clad catgirls.
Miqo'te had a LOT of time to integrate themselves into Eorzean society as a whole.

Compare that to the fact that the Mithra were only brought along en masse twenty years prior to the present game. Nevermind that gender roles sort of vanished due to the low number of males, leaving the females to do the fighting, hunt and everything in between. You're not going to see a massive change in their society or niches for them within the greater whole in one generation.

Miqo'te on the other hand have been around for a couple of centuries, which is plenty of time for them to kind of work their way into the greater society. As mentioned earlier, there is also city state customs to keep in mind.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, I smirked when I saw that part.

To add my own annecdote, I recall a quest in 1.0 for a love potion/soup that a female Miqo'te had me gather ingredients for because she wanted to get into the pants of some lalafell. I was hoping to see the results of her efforts in ARR, but alas have not.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

I was vacationing in Costa again last night and noticed, on one of the beach platforms, a proud silver-haired Lalafel boasting to a modestly-dressed Miqo'te lass, that he'd been "quite successful" or somesuch (hem, hem) in his fifty-five years...

Also as a traditional conspiracy theorist in character, I note in passing that (1) the Lalafels seem to be in charge of *everything*, behind the scenes and (2) Miqo'te girls are either dancers, servers, assistants, or they are unique independents, with no in-between (other than the example of Forgotten Springs) - Y'Shtola, K'Hylia, the Armorer's Guild Mistress...

(Note I've only been playing since October and haven't advanced past Brayflox's Longstop yet, story-wise)

Makes me suspect a secret Lalafel Syndicate trafficking in Miqo'te females, it does. Oh dear...

It seems a lot of Mi'qote are in the sex trade, at least when it comes to Sun Seekers (which have a different style of culture that seems less about monogamous family relationships than the Moon Keepers). So I'm not so sure that they're being trafficked as much as 'contracted' for a job that they don't consider in any way as being shady. I don't even think sex work is illegal anywhere in Eorzea, that I can tell. There are people propositioning girls right out in the open streets in Limsa, for example.

If you go to Forgotten Sands, actually walk up to the npcs and read the random dialogue they spew. There's a couple of Mi'qote in the tavern/shop talking about looking forward to a certain encounter. For their tribe sex is power and prestige as well as pleasure.

If it's the conversation I am thinking about, one female is asking the other "When is your next coupling?".

Armchair -ologist that I am, I figured that had to do with/be about the whole "One Nunh at a time" scheme, so that there was some sort of breeding rota.
