I read through (most) of the first five pages, the other five got a little tl:dr...

    This is all entirely IMO...
I remember (once upon a time) googling how cats mated. The tom-cat's penis is barbed, which causes pain for the girl when he pulls out. This stimulates her to ovulate, which explains why cats never have periods, like dogs and humans do (totally not suggesting they can cross-breed).
What does this mean? Well, maybe Miqo'te men and women are similar? Which can also explain why there are so many Miqo'te prostitutes, and are able to get away with it (as in, not having kids), because only a male Miqo'te can 'stimulate' the female to ovulate (unless someone has invented a way...).
For Lalafells... They're just too small. A male Roe and a fem Lala? Honestly, how will that work? If it were a male Lala, there'd really be only one getting an orgy outta that, unless he had is entire lower half in her. If that produces a kid... I'd be scared.
All in all, I can only see Hyurs, Elezen and Roegadyn being able to cross-breed. The Miqo'te and Lalafells keeping to their own.

As far as the half'n'half kids being rare, I agree that it is a cultural thing. Look at America. There's pretty much every culture in the world there, and how many do you see intermingling and making babies? It's probably a lot more common in America, but it's still not that common.
Hyurs and Elezen founded Gridania. I'm sure a handful did make human/elf babies, but it's not common enough that Hyurs and Elezen "purebreds" became minority.
Infertility? A good possibility. Male mules (horse + donkey) are sterile and something like 5% of the female mules can reproduce.

That's not *exactly* how it works. Cats DO go into heat (aka their "period"). They just don't ovulate until stimulated. Which is why they can stay in heat for quite a while sometimes.

    Just thought i'd clarify!

I'd also like to remind you that Lala's aren't children or babies so the size of their packages theoretically could be the same range as any other of the races if that is how they procreate. They seem to be mammals but since all the races aren't real there isn't all the much info on how the races work biologically; especially with magic and alchemy existing how it does in this universe.

From what I'm aware, the only instance of an actual child lalafell being shown in FFXIV was back in 1.0 during one of the GLA class quests, in an Echo scene, one of the npcs (a lalafell) in the scene is labelled 'Familiar Child' in his nameplate, hinting that the child in question was the person whose memories the player was viewing, and the lalafell looked pretty much the same as he did as an adult, other than a slightly different hairstyle and change of clothes.

So from that scene, I guess lalafell must reach their limit of physical maturity pretty quickly and then no longer 'age' physically.

There is a child lalafell (or at least labeled as such) during one of the Ul'dah storyline quests. I think I have a screenshot somewhere, I'll have to see if I can upload it later, but I don't recall them looking that different than a fully grown lalafell, at least not compared to the child tarutarus back in XI.

I thought the lalafell grew in the ground like radishes and the only reason you don't see child lalafells is that they haven't been pulled up yet. 0_o
And don't the Miqo'te reproduce by mitosis? Thats was why so many of us look the same.
And Elezen are carved from tree trunks and their hairstyle tells you what type of tree.

Just a point by ridiculous example that assumptions of Earth biology don't necessarily apply.

Yeah, the one I mentioned was pretty much the same, as can be seen here from these 1.0 screenshots:

'Child version' seen through the Echo:

And his adult form for comparison:

So yeah, from those screenshots it's easy to see that lalafell really don't seem to age all that much - even elderly lalafell still look pretty much like they did when they were kids.

    Lumei is Female yes.

Perhaps Lala reproduce by laying eggs inside of the other races and devouring their way out. :>

    ......
Lalafells give birth in clusters. When they are born, they look like baby kangaroos. Normally in clusters of 3 to 5. After that, they are fed with gils and tears of other races.

They mature quickly, the more gils and tears, the faster they grow.

The reason you see the male and females looking for other races is due to this fact, they need to collect the tears of heartbroken souls.
