Please Add Right-Click Context Menu to Chat Log (Sample Pic) & Other Log Improvements

    Example: http://i.imgur.com/nsApD.jpg

    Japanese Language example: http://i.imgur.com/wbnEC.jpg

Main problems are listed in red, with solutions written below.

Problem: Customizing the chat filter is horribly slow and unintuitive.

We have to go through multiple menus just to get to the chat filter in the first place, and once we get there it's hard to filter the stuff we want to filter. Some of the text category descriptions are very confusing. Show or hide "helpful actions by/on enemies"? What? Really? What does that even mean?

This is how a normal humans' thought process works:

You are in battle, and your party has cure cast on it. All of a sudden, your chat log explodes with "Player 1 cast Cure on Player 2, Player 2 recovers 200 HP", "Player 1 cast Cure on Player 3, Player 3 recovers 200 HP", "Player 1 cast Cure on Player 4, Player 4 recovers 200 HP", etc.

I don't want to see that wall of text pop up all the time.

I should be able to right click on that particular text, and then be able to hide that category of text. Easy. Simple. It reduces the need for the guess and check config menu.

Problem: Customizing the chat log text color is horribly slow and unintuitive.

Similar to the above problem, it would be easier and faster to do it via right-click context menu.

Problem: Adding players to your social list is time-consuming and unintuitive.

It's a pain to have to go to the menu, click "add", type in the first name, press tab, type in the last name, confirm, then confirm again.

It would be easier if I could just do it via right click context menu. This is especially helpful if the user has a long, complicated name. I would have loved to have this feature back in September when there were RMT gil sellers named Hasljrwesrei Zzxxuzxyues spamming shout all day long.

    Additional Chat Log Improvements:

Add the functions /l1, /l2, /l3, /l4 etc so that we can change linkshells without having to access the menu.

Add more tabs for each window.

Add more categories for chat text color. Specifically, the ability to alter only the chat log text about "parry", "evade", and "block", so that it is easier to use reactionary skills like Phalanx, Fracture, Haymaker, and Jarring Strike.

Add 4 new global shout categories that broadcast to the entire server rather than just the immediate area. Each one would be for each of the different languages (Japanese, English, German, French) (/jp, /en, /gr, /fr)

Add 1 global shout category just for party finding. Limit each player to one shout per 20 minutes to prevent spamming.

Add 1 global shout category just for buyin/selling. Limit each player to one shout per 20 minutes to prevent spamming.

Let me know what you guys think in the comments.

Great idea, also the ability to left click a players name in the chat log to instantly reply to them or tell a new person, right click the name to invite to party.

(Imagine you see someone in Ul'Dah shouting for a party, they have a very long and weird name, instead of typing in the text meticulously you just left click their name say "party, do you need it" and then right click and invite them)

Shift + Left Click an item to link the item in the chat window (similar to how WoW and many other mmo's do this)

A separate trade channel to get rid of all the spam text in cities.

All these things should be present in any 2011 MMO.

Edit:- I know this is all based on mouse and keyboard control but its the very reason why PS3 and PC should have separate UI.

Yes, that would also add some good functionality, I agree.

I remember they someone made a statement a while back that they were going to do separate UI for the PS3 and PC. I wonder how far into development that has gone.

I don't suppose the reps could get a quick soundbite from Mr. Minagawa about how the progress on the UI changes are coming along? <3

Don't stop there. Add right clicking on PCs,NPCs, Party List, for any available command such as easier emotes to healig. PLEASE DONT LET CONSOLE CONTROL HOLD YOU BACK. This is a PC game too, and I cannot right click on anything.

PS3 does support kb/m. Still any way you look at it this should be in the game for PC even if it isn't for PS3.

Right-click (for that matter, kb/m) is probably not intuitive to console-only gamers. You might get the opposite response then.
Just look at Apple and Windows based machines...each supports its own brand of intuitiveness...

Honestly, when I'm playing a PC MMO, i hate the mouse more than anything. Point and click to move is ridiculous (which I'm glad FFXIV isn't like that) and needing the mouse to interact with objects such as NPCs is just too much when it's so easy to target them with tab, enter, or the arrow keys. However, I do agree with the OP, being able to use the mouse to do minor things such as /tell a player who appeared in your chat log, invite a player, and link item information would definitely help the UI, even in a small way, especially since player names can be much longer in this game than in other MMOs. And maybe on the PS3 version keep the same concept, but have a button that will maybe trigger a cursor in the log window, or will trigger a mouse that you can scroll across the screen with one of the analog sticks. (I personally like the first idea better, but just putting in multiple options for what to do.)

All are excellent ideas! I support all the listed suggestions so far in this thread.
