I used a Seagate Momentus XT SDD+HDD hybrid for my fat model 40GB PS3, so that's what I recommend since you can damage your PS3 with certain ones that are just too much on the system.

Considering the ps3 misses the required controller to take the full advantage of an SSD, a hybrid should function just fine. It might give you some quicker loading times and or quicker installation of files, however the data is not very conclusive and differs per game. It is also good to note down that other then installation and loading, having an SSD or Hybrid in the ps3 will not make any real difference during actual in game performance. the only real noteable difference is pop ups.
