It's still a small enough sample size that it *could* just be dirty/overheating PS3s, and it's a coincidence that it's been happening since the patch (or the patch is just putting that liiittle extra stress on the console)... or it could be some inherent bugginess in the patch itself causing PS3s to freeze.

For my own part, I think every time I was either in Gridania or zoning out of Gridania.
My PS3's handled far busier and far more graphically stressing enviroments on XIV before 2.1 and not crashed, done that Highbridge FATE a few times during peak hours and its been fine with all the players/animations on screen.
The two times is crashed in last 24hrs have been low populated areas, so far less stressing then 30 players throwing magic around :/

As for my hardware, its a Slim Line PS3 (one of the last self loading disk drive non crap slim lines) that was new in April this year, also has a SSD drive in there since the original struggled with XIV, been running smooth and fine for a few months.

So I'm thinking its a bug in the patch myself.

    EDIT: (saving posts for today)

Yeah the SSD really does help with load times, I often find I've loaded into instances a few seconds before the rest of team, also I keep beating my PC mate through zone loading screens lol. I'd seriously suggest getting one if you cant afford a PS4 ready for XIV's release.

They won't acknowledge the bug until they've confirmed it and have a fix ready for it. They probably are looking hard into fixing it, considering how many NEW PLAYERS joined from the Thanksgiving PS3 sale.

Same problem here. Happened this morning around 2:30am. Just finished killing the 3 groups of 8 for my relic, teleported back to Gridania and it froze when I pulled up my menu.

I had my PS3 freeze on me three times since 2.1 was implemented, as well. First time was on Tuesday, and the second and third times were Wednesday. I haven't had any issues the last couple days, but I'm wondering when it'll happen again.

They designed ARR for the PS3 but still is a last generation console, no matter how you look at it. That's why FFXIV is ported over to the PS4.

IDK why they haven't done so alredy but FFXI is more fit to work on PS3 than FFXIV:ARR.

Yes, it would be kind of inexcusable to developers considering they decided to develop for it. Regardless if you want it to run good on a lesser hardware system, while running together with the better hardware system, you need to find a way to do that. In this case, that would mean simplifying the game on the lesser hardware device. In example for our current game, everything is cut up into zones, which each are instanced. This eases the loading stress a bit. Though technically most players would prefer a open world, where they could transition from zone to zone without loading. Like in FF11, WoW etc and only have dungeons instanced. The ps3 can't handle that.

Shamefully it is a double edged sword and like many others it failed to a certain degree. It works but it is not quite right. Hopefully the ps4 version can bring it better.
