If NA EU always play high speed connection, then SEA is a monster from outer space come to earth, SEA gamers always play with high ping which is 200~300 ping is consider normal.
so yeah 3 digit ping is our daily gaming life and only a few able to see 2 digit ping
in patch 2.1, i must say connection is very smooth and that still with 150~250 ping from my pc playing in JP server
I am curious about what he considers "optimal connexion".
I live in a big city, in a country that's amongts the world's most developped as far as high speed Internet goes (far more than the USA, and even more than Canada, apparently), and although I don't have optic fiber, I have standart high speed Internet for here. I have never encountered such a problem in over 10 years of playing MMOs.
I don't know much about IT, there might be a technical reason outside of SE's influence why I suffer from this problem specifically with this game, and that without this I would enjoy a smooth game experience.
But I can't help thinking that, considering all this, and considering the number of people in various locations around the world who claim they are suffering from it too, and considering that even some people living near the datacenters in Canada said they suffered from it, too... it looks less likely than the opposite.
Some people also said they were playing fine with less than optimal equipment.
Either they lied, the problem is all on the use's end, and SE just made a game that needs incredibly high quality Internet to be played (in which case, the warning "Internet connexion required" is inacurate, and I believe I have been tricked into buying a game that wasn't truthfull about it's technical requirements).
Or there is a problem on SE's end (in which case this interview is, if not an outright lie, a big mokery taking people for idiots by playing dumb to avoid admitting there is a problem when it's obvious there is).
Which would make about 280ms?
Aparently, it should still not be enough to play endgame content, according to this:
If you can beat endgame with a 3 digit ping, then that confirms that the speech in this interview is BS.GW: If you’re able to dodge with 3 digit Ping then it’s not fun as a game
Yoshida: We would need to extend the time players have to dodge. But doing that will make the content super easy, so it’s impossible.

Don't want to sound like a douchebag, but the latency you get in that that GIF in your signature is terrible enough that I doubt it's all on SE's end. I'm using a regular enough internet connection for my area, nothing special, on PS3, using wireless.
Ive been hit by stuff like that, but i'd have to be leaving the active area within miliseconds of it ending to actually be hit.
It's really easy to blame a company like this, especially when you can cry "conspiracy" anytime you like. But for gods sake, the latency you're describing has got to be a serious minority.
Is it really? I guess i'll find out eventually. I doubt it'll bother me that much though honestly. Mostly because I don't think it'll ever get as bad as most people are describing for me. Which is sort of the issue. But playing fighting games, i'm a bit used to the whole "get a better connection or deal with it" mentality. Ideally you'd like it to never get in your way, but such is life.
*Shrug*

It's not a serious minority. It might be a minority, but 49% can still be considered a minority, so keep that in mind. I play on ps3 in SoCal using Time Warner on the Migardsomr server. TW has a latency issue during peak hours (which I believe is confirmed) that creates a huge problem. Even without it though, there is still early morning lag.
During one titan battle, our WHM would call out plumes. He said he called them out when they first appeared on the screen for him. This was always 1-1.5 second(s) before I even saw them. You can also claim to choreograph the whole thing(I will actually probably try to figure out how to orchestrate that against the stupid bombs, since they also generate a lag-related issue), but that is a pretty poor resolution for the problem. Maybe when I get a little higher equipment (not my relic though, which is being held captive by lag), I might be able to survive and outrun the lag. I'll keep trying, but not everyone will and SE will have to come to terms with that at some point or it will kill the game/reputation of the company.
Also, I'm 99% certain that you cannot use any tunneling systems in conjunction with ps3/4.

This is what frustrates me the most. Husband and I use pingzapper, but would love to be on the ps3 (sometimes I have to be). And we can't run pingzapper through that. I get tired of hearing "it's your hardware." If that were true, pingzapper wouldn't fix the issue, and there's no way to fix a ps3's hardware.
I don't also want to hear "it's not SE's fault!" They are the ones that put all the data centers in one spot that makes people far away have to have tons of hops to get there. That just severely increases the changes of going to a bad hop in the first place.
Hello;
I just want to share my experience because the delay I have in the game used to make me take a break.
I'm back for the 2.1, and I noticed that I don't lag one bit in deserted areas.
I mean, I was doing some Main Story quests in "Cape Westwind" and not a lot of people comes here really; then I noticed that everything was instant. My mount came to me really quick, the enemy health-bar was decreasing at the exact same time my attacks connects etc. that was amazing o.o
But then, I went back to the Ceruleum Processing Plant and the delay was back; I can summon my mount and walk an entire day until it appears under me, I can barely feel my damages on enemies etc..
So I'm only lagging when a lot of people are playing near me (or in dungeon).
I really enjoy playing FFXIV, but hoping nobody is in my area so I can have a good ping...
[Sorry for my english!]
Optimal connection means living inside the border of the country the server is. You can have a 100mbs connection but get 500ms while someone with a 10mbs connection gets 20ms simply because the server is in his country.I am curious about what he considers "optimal connexion".

Anything below 300ms is very good ping. Anyone who argues otherwise has probably never played an MMO outside his country border before.
Sadly a majority of MMOs do that, if you play English servers which are mostly located in NA. The sad fact is if you don't live in NA, it's time to get a tunneling service.
