Is THM Better than BLM in PvP?

Basically a Copy of my original topic in the General chat in the correct forum.
    http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...han-BLM-in-PvP

Just want everyone else's thoughts on this, do you think THM is better than BLM in PvP? Or Some Jobs better than Classes?

I've been testing both Black Mage and THM in pvp and I've been finding THM to be far more effective.

What I have been doing is, at the start of the fight sleep any DPS I see, if I get hit I stack up Feather foot, keen Fury, and ManaWard to avoid dmg/decrease dmg.

I've been saving surecast mainly for blizzard 2, so I can Bind Targets in place that try to hit me, and sleep when I need it, and when I attack I use Aero first to add DoT and then Scathe. Allowing me to kite and move (Sprint and Kite), when many enemies are asleep or I have time to attack I do my long casting spells (fire-fire3 etc)

When I'm at half HP I use Second Wind or SwiftCast ->StoneSkin.
(I used to use Convalescence and Secondwind but found that the two do not stack, however Convalescence and Cure should help with a little boost to self healing or Party mate healing when the healer is busy)

As Black mage I find My spells get interrupted a lot more, and when I get hit spell interruption is very high, with Aero and then Scathe it increases my damage.

    Update 21/12/2013
I've been Playing around with THM a lot more, i've gotten a hold Mercy Stroke, I must say Mercy stroke in the hands of a THM
is an AMAZING tool. Basically you watch for people that are low on HP and Pick them off while draining HP on the kill,
you can use it in a combo Scathe+Mercy Strike, or you can pick off people that get a res from a healer and quickly take them out again.
It works as a great finisher move, and its 200 Potency makes up for the lack of strength a THM has.

I also have foresight, which gives me a nice quick boost to my defense, and makes me a more Tanky mage able to take more hits than Normal.

I would venture to say Blm is far better, scathe is rather useless even as BLM
Also curious why Aero? You would be better off with thunder 2 i would think.
Again i have not tried PVP so i may not be accurate in my statement
I did however like cure rather then what we get as blm
Mm I tried a few pvp fights as BLM and I found it really hard. Even if I sleep targets some use Purity so they get out of sleep easy.
My second problem was moving targets, sometimes when you focus on something they will either hide behind obstacles to get out of your FoV, or run around and cause
    your spell to interrupt.
I can run around and Scathe as a BLM as well however, which might be stronger than a THM scathe which is why I use Aero first and Scathe while Aero DOT is ineffect.

Main problem I found with BLM however, was when enemies hit you, your spells interrupt unless you use surecast bliz or surecast sleep to get out of the attack and get some distance with sprint.
but if surecast is on cooldown your a sitting duck. As THM I mainly use my cross skills to help out when surecast is on cooldown. I could easily Swiftcast a fire3 or fire or Thunder 3 or any of those spells as well
but I find (maybe its just me) that Swiftcast is better used defensively rather than offensively

It was hard to compare in the heat of the moment, but I believe Aero helps with the Scathe DMG I lose by being THM instead of black mage by adding a helpful DoT effect.

    Oh I had no idea!
If I stack that with Raging Strikes it should boost my Kite Power a lot.

Blood for Blood: Increases damage dealt by 10% and damage suffered by 25%.
Raging Strikes: Increases attack power by 20%.

Would be a good move for taking down a healer fast, all i would need is a quick Lethargy (Inflicts target with Slow and Heavy +20%.)
Stack Blood for blood/Raging Strikes and then Aero, Scathe them down.

Bloodbath- All Attacks have Drain effect.
Mercy Stroke- High-Damage move that heals on a kill.
Internal Release- Crit Rate + 20%

Awareness- Decreases odds of suffering a crit 25%.

    Party Support:
Mantra- Cure Magic + 10% on entire party.

Oh, I thought it effected my Second wind healing as well.
I didn't really notice while I was fighting, i'll remove it from the OP

I also thought about it for a while, and decided to try it out after a few pvp fights as black mage.
The Cross skills really help you survive longer in a fight.

I wonder if becoming a GLD instead of PLD would make you more of a DPS than Tank.

for GLD I can see the below skills being useful, I dont main GLD or PLD though so it would be easier for someone that mains the job/class to decide.

Straight Shot- Damage and Crit Rate +10%. Melee Only.
Raging Strikes- Damage + 20% (including DoT) ALL CLASSES
Venomous Bite- Powerful DoT with short duration. Melee Only.

Feint- Damage + Slow. All Melee.
Invigorate- Restores 300 TP. ALL CLASSES.
Blood For Blood- 20% dmg buff but with 25% Dmg Gained. ALL CLASSES.

Internal Release- Crit Rate + 20%. ALL CLASSES.

I found a helpful guide here

I went up against a THM in pvp and they actually did very well.

I was surprised by something though. I was in a match with a PLD WHM THM MNK. We had managed to kill the WHM, but he got raised somehow. I'm pretty sure it wasn't the PLD because he was non stop rushing our healer the whole time.

That only left the THM to raise... I was pretty shocked when someone said BLMs can raise. I knew they had to be full of it so I waited until it was over and sure enough what I thought was a BLM in i55 pvp gear was a THM.

THM can get raise, but i'm not sure if it can be used in combat. Maybe pvp doesn't matter and it only counts pvm

Freeze is your 2nd best CC skill which is only available to BLM. There is no reason you'd want to be a THM which has lesser stat and a damage increase of 10%. On top of that, I doubt you can use Mercy Stroke as it requires you to be in almost melee range. Only reason you'd want to be a THM is when you want to be a 2nd Healer, Stoneskin.

I haven't tried Raise in PvP, but if it does work. I'm stacking Piety on my MRD to get the minimum MP requirement for Quickcast Raise, which is 798mp if I'm not mistaken.
