Honestly, if people are going out of their way to be nice and helpful in parties, then not only is this system doing exactly what it's supposed to do, the system doing exactly what a lot of people said it wouldn't.

I never needed motivation to be helpful, but if some people do then I'd say it's working.

There's a point where being nice just turns into plain awkwardness, being told "Happy Holidays ^_^ & hope you're doing well " repeatedly throughout a run is creepy.
