I always say "Hey. " at the start of a dungeon, respond to whatever questions I get and laugh at funny jokes anyone makes in a dungeon. Now that 2.1 comes along I've been accused of being a suck-up because I've been doing this since I started.

Though, I do hate when someone asks/tells you to commend them. Was leveling my healer with 2 FC mates and some ilvl70 PLD came in and demanded we commend him after each boss and when we told him we were in a party he pulled mobs, called us noobs and left. xD Luckily tanks aren't necessary in low level dungeons, we finished without him...

I think you're just being too cynical by assuming everyone who's nice is just sucking up. Not to mention if you think saying hello at the start of a dungeon is people acting nice, you must not be very nice yourself. What's so wrong about saying hello at the start? There's usually plenty of time because there's usually always 1 person who isn't trying to skip the cutscene as quickly as possible.

There's also the fact that TRYING to gain commendations just seems stupid to me. If you're good, you'll get them. Unless you're DPS, then you better save the day otherwise you aren't getting any...

I've given several to DD. Like that one early Guildhest, the one where you pull the mobs around the Goobbue. Got it as a random and I was tanking. No ranged skill at L12, so I body pulled the first group, and the lowbie archer automatically pulled the rest of the groups and moved to me without having to be asked or told.

I don't mean they actually have to save the day, they just have to do something worthwhile to gain it and being DPS makes it that you don't really have a lot of opportunities to do something worthwhile compared to Tanks or Healers, who constantly save the group. I've had a few commendations on my BLM (not sure if it was for being good, being geared or just random selection) so I know it happens, but if I'm to give commendations based on how helpful someone was to the group, Tanks and Healers are most likely to get them unless a DPS manages to beat a boss when everyone else wiped, or a Bard prevents a wipe with a well timed LB.

In fact, I gave a commendation to a Bard in AV because it was his first time and even though he wasn't very good, he managed to AoE down the fruit on the last boss after our 4th attempt and we finished with 4 minutes left.

    Moogle: Black Mage ftw.

Here's a link to a bunch of rotation and DPS numbers I wrote up to try help BLM see they aren't as weak as they might think.

Yeah, I've managed to get 5 thus far as a DD. Two were for being last man standing against Demon Wall, 2 for Mage's in CT when a healer died, and one presumably for pulling mobs off the healer when the tank died on a bad pull.

So, not impossible, but you have to be doing something that the other players can notice, or just hope someone's picking at random. . .

    Well

I don't think it's that, but rather some people are being more friendly/helpful in an attempt to acquire more commendations and that this particular poster finds it to be despicable.

i wish commendations were in the game last patch

i'd queue ifrit all the time and be like "all your commendation are belong to me". people would be like "wtf? not giving that guy a commendation what a douche". but only before i solo the last 10% of ifrit

Of the commendations I've been given, I'd say a healthy 80% are as a DPS. Though in my case, I think my name had more to do with it than anything.
